"The age of the hotel showed better in the lobby and common rooms than in my room, 212. Other than the bed and curtains, it felt like half-heartedly fixed-up "old." The standalone heater/cooler (I didn't need it) gave a "we have a limited budget to make this room liveable" vibe. Downstairs is stunning. Elevator is charmingly goofy. Breakfast setup was solid."

"Hidden Gem in Japantown, conveniently located walking distance from everything. Japantown is much safer than other areas like financial district or marina. Hotel is mall, boutique style, rooms are spacious and and cleanliness was great. Will be back!"

"Absolutely charming hotel with rare, original details not to be seen elsewhere. The atmosphere is as if stepping back in time to a world of quiet elegance. At the same time there have been plenty of infrastructural upgrades so you are thoroughly in the 21st Century. Also the location is excellent--walkable to downtown, the Fillmore, and Japantown."

"After staying downtown and diliking it, I always choose the Laurel Inn for my bus trips now. Rooms are comfortable and bathroom updated and I really like the safe and calm feeling of the neighborhood. Looking forward to coming back when the building next door is finally built since 7-5 construction is unpleasant. Gill the manager tries hard to make it a nice experience. "
