"This hotel is a beautiful ryokan and onsen. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed it. We ate breakfast and dinner at the ryokan and really enjoyed the food - meals are 7 courses and food quality is top notch. We would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Yudanaka. They have a private onsen which we also booked so my husband and I could use the onsen together. "

"We highly recommended a stay at Shimaya Ryokan for anyone visiting Yudanaka. The location, cleanliness & attention to detail were outstanding and host/owner Mr Yamuto (apologies if name is spelt incorrectly) went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and that all our needs were met… even driving us to Snow Monkey Park and providing us with maps for the next leg of our trip. "I very much enjoyed my stay at this little gem in the beautiful Onsen town of Yudanaka in the mountains. This ryokan is owned by an older Japanese couple. It had a private Onsen on site, so if you are not comfortable with the idea of using a public Onsen, I recommend this ryokan for you. Do keep in mind, this is an old building and is not a flashy or fancy place by any means. My stay here was very comfortable, and it feels very homey and safe here. This place is located very conveniently near the Yudanaka train station (10 min walk) and the Snow Monkey park (10 min bus ride to the top- then a 30 min hike to the park). There are also very many site-seeing spots nearby. Shibu Onsen and the World Peace statue are both musts. If you are considering coming to this cute sleepy unseen town, I recommend staying here."

"Amazing stay. The gentleman at the front desk who spoke great English was lovely, he helped us with everything and was also attentive during our kaiseki dinner, helping explain everything. We had a tatami room, it was nice, the bathroom a little dated, but the onsen was fabulous. The outdoor onsen was beautiful. Loved our stay here and can recommend it to anyone."

"The servuce was 1st class from the first moment till the end. This was a highlight to our monthlong trip. Such pride in proving excellent everything. The half board option is so worth it. What a missed opportunity if you don't. The owner is so nice and lovely. She will greet you and make you feel at home."
