"We had a lovely stay at the Old Schoolhouse. Our room and bathroom were spacious. Our hosts had homemade treats for us each day (an oatmeal raisin cookie our first day and a piece of spice cake the next). Our breakfast was at a large table with the other guests. We loved talking to them, several of whom were walking the length of Hadrian's wall. The breakfast itself was delicious and generous. We would absolutely stay here again."

"Room was clean and tidy on arrival Staff went above and beyond very helpful nothing was to much Breakfast was amazing lots of choice whatever your taste and all the food that came out looked good liked the fact juice and pasties where available as well as tea/ coffee and toast. We took our dog and again the staff order water and happily gave him a sausage for his breakfast. A lovely hotel in centre of Britain definitely worth a stop over"

Victorian cottage, large gardens, near river, Hadrian's Wall & Allendale

"We had a fabulous stay in this wonderful cottage which felt so homely. David and Ruth have thought of everything you could possibly need and more! The gardens are a peaceful place to spend some quality time - especially the summer house. The cottage is ideally located to visit some lovely places - recommend Corbridge, Hexham and Alston for a drive. There's an easy walk along the river into Allendale which takes a leisurely 20 minutes where you can refresh yourself at a choice of pubs or cafes before heading back. We needed a quiet retreat this year as hubby was recuperating after a lengthy stay in hospital. David and Ruth were so thoughtful, contacting us before our holiday to understand our needs and to make recommendations to make our time at the cottage as restful as possible. We were lucky enough to be there when the fruit trees were laden. Taking David at his word, we used some of the apples and made a delicious apple crumble! We loved the cottage and gardens but also fell in love with the whole area. Everyone was so friendly and helpful - Emma (next door) was brilliant ! We would definitely love to come back again in the future. Huge thanks to David & Ruth for all their help and advice and for sharing their lovely cottage."

"We had a fantastic midweek holiday with 2 adults and 4 children (ages 10 - 15). Even though the lodge is a bit dated it has everything you need and was extremely comfortable. It was so peaceful at night and I had some of the best night sleep in a long time. Towels and bedding were provided, which is always welcome, and the hottub was well looked after - which added additional value to the already value or money stay. Be prepared to drive 20-25mins to the local shops and sites, but the location is worth it. We visited different roman sites each day and the scenery as you drive is fantastic."

"Loved the cottage and we had a great stay here at the end of September 24. The rooms are large and comfortable, we particularly liked the large kitchen and dining room. Our dog loved the large dog bed in the kitchen.The beds were good and having two bathrooms was great with 5 adults.The only negatives were the lighting in the lounge which is too dark, I like to craft and sew but couldn't because of the lighting and we couldn't play games in the lounge for the same reason. We noticed you had an advert in the window for a cleaner and whilst most of the cottage was very clean, the lounge needs a bit of attention there were rather a lot of cobwebs on the walls and the floor was very dusty, especially around the edges of the room. Also it would help if there was a vacuum cleaner in the cottage so that guests could clean during their stay.The location is great, the village is beautiful and in s stunning area, we loved the small pub at the top of the hill. Whilst the cottage does not have a garden walking the dog was easy and there is a large green outside the property for night time pee's. Hexham is a short drive away and great to visit and Beamish Museum is approx 75 mins away.I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it for both families and adult groups."
