"Very nice staff. However, there was black mold in the bathroom, the entire place is closed from 10am-3pm, it's hard to find the staff even during "open" hours, and it's far from the train station. It is very close to all of the 7 Hells and some of the best onsen in Japan."

"The beds are quite comfortable despite looking old and simple. Only 1 bathroom and 1 toilet but we make do with it for 5 people. It's spacious enough for 5 persons. Hotel facilities are good enough for us for 2 nights."

"I have stayed in 12 hotels on this trip, and this is the friendliest, with the kindest staff. I needed an extra pillow and they brought it to my room within a few minutes, they got me a taxi for my bus out of town, they had better then usual English understanding and treated me very well. The property is a little old, and I noticed the other guests were mostly older people (I’m 44, most the others were over 60) so it is not a hotel for having a party, but for a high quality nights sleep, I highly recommend it. "This was our first visit to beppu and first stay at this location. At first glance it looks older, but the staff met us halfway as we walked from the bus stop. This was the only hotel that did that and highlighted the start of a great stay with great service. They took us all the way to the front desk and provided us great service to the room. We chose a private open air Onsen and traditional setting, which they fixed our rooms each day. We could see the ocean on one side and mountain (for fire festival) on the other. Great location to everything and would definitely stay again. "
"The private onsen were phenomenal. The onsen in the room was also amazing. The main clerk made sure to explain everything he could about the room, the baths, and the entirety of the building. Breakfast was also amazing, a large spread of what I hope is a traditional Japanese breakfast. "
