This is a cool place to stay. Historic building (complete w/ basement speakeasy), convenient location, across street from train station. Friendly, accommodating front desk staff; charming, comfortable rooms; and top notch bar and restaurant with polite, efficient service. We'll be back!
We had a lovely stay here! The staff could not have been more accomodating and the rooms were quiet with very comfortable beds. The bathroom in the room was modern and spotless. We had a great "happy hour" dinner out on the terrace with delicious small plates and wine tasting flights. Will definitely stay here again!
I had a wonderful stay at the Bernards Inn. Angel on the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. I was made to feel like a valued guest. The room was quiet and spacious. The Inn has lots of character and charm.
I had a room on the top floor facing Rt 202 and the train station. The room was small but so cute and very clean, I loved it. The only complaint was the fact that I could hear the street traffic and train horn throughout the night…did not sleep well but the room was A+
Old building, small room but clean & comfortable. No fridge or coffee in room. Minimal breakfast options.
AC unit in window allowed cold outside air into room and more street noise from cars & train.
Staff very accommodating and helpful.
This old world hotel was wonderful. The service was exceptional. So many hotels charge for a bottle of water, but this hotel graciously had one in the room, with offers for more if needed. While they don't serve breakfast, coffee/tea and muffins were available as grab and go. That worked perfectly as I was taking a train and needed something quick. If anyone wants breakfast, there is a lovely cafe less than a block from the hotel.
The room, although one of the smaller ones, was well appointed and very clean.
I honestly can't remember the last time I had such amazing care from hotel staff. Every single person I encountered went out of their way to be helpful, kind, and friendly. The location is convenient and the rooms are clean and comfortable, but I will stay here again for the truly outstanding customer service.
Beautiful old hotel . Well kept ! Staff was great and restaurant was wonderful .
My only complaint is that there is no elevator and the staircases are irregular and pose a tripping/ slipping hazard . Also , no service available to help with luggage .
Finally , the parking lot should be available to patrons only . Parking on
The street or train station overnight will result in a ticket from the local police .
I give them 4.5 stars. Old English hunt country charm with four poster bed and chintz curtains. My one negative is that there is no elevator for luggage. But, the hotel helped us get some of the luggage up to the room. The bar has been updated with an upscale menu and it had a lot of young people and full of energy. The hotel is right in the middle of the very quaint town of bernardsville. Overall, we had a lovely visit.

While it is charming I cannot say I would recommend it. My room was across from the train tracks (think My Cousin Vinny with the 2am train blowing by). Restaurant was below my room and people were loud which is fine, but the noise traveled and it felt like the windows weren’t closed shut because of how clear the sound carried. Remote control was sticky. Carpet had stains and the smell that greeted me when I entered my room was stale and musty. Bathroom was clean as was the bed and the linens. Staff were friendly.
So it’s an inn. No ice machine, no elevator and parking off site that’s often full. If you are ok with quaint and often inconvenient, it’s a cute place with good restaurant. If you don’t want hassle it’s not for you. Arrived afree long drive and had no parking anywhere. Had to carry luggage two blocks and carry up to third floor. Carpet near bottom of stairs filthy. Carpet in room old and stretched. Had full sized old mattress that was way too small. We kept rolling into the middle so didn’t sleep well. Staff was very nice and restaurant on first floor very good. This is a place to stay for a getaway not when you need sleep/ease/support. A lot of food options walkable.
The room was clean; staff was very friendly and courteous; overall atmosphere harkins back to another time. Will definitely stay here next time.

The Bernards Inn is desperately in need of a renovation or refresh. The carpets are old and stained. The bathrooms look like they were updated in the 1970s. And I think the pillow was that old as well. Staff were friendly and courteous and the lobby was nice.
Entering this inn is like stepping into the past. It is a truly beautiful place. Warning - there is no elevator. But the young man who checked me in was more than happy to carry my luggage up to the next floor.
The real highlight of the hotel is the restaurant - the food is fabulous and the service it top notch. One of the best meals I've had in the last ten years!
