About this property
Base Camp to Yellowstone and the Beartooth Pass
The Wildflower is a luxurious cabin almost three miles outside of Cooke City on Colter Pass. This location provides the perfect jumping off point for outdoor adventures in the Beartooths and Yellowstone National Park. The cabin sits at just over 8000 feet elevation so we're right up in some of the most beautiful alpine terrain in the lower 48. For skiers and snowmobilers this means lightning quick access to the Lulu Pass trails and a massive range of peaks to explore. We're also just a ten minute drive to the Yellowstone entrance so you can be in the Lamar Valley in the blink of an eye. This stretch of road is not maintained in the wintertime, so winter guests snowmobile in from Cooke City or from the Pilot Creek parking area in Wyoming. The road becomes a groomed snowmobile trail during this time so it's an easy ride in. Adventurous guests who don't have snowmobiles can rent them in Cooke City. We also have a tracked SUV to bring in people and gear when snowmobiles aren’t convenient. The cabin itself is a log home that has been extensively remodeled and updated with all the modern conveniences including WiFi and smart TV's in the bedrooms and living spaces. It's divided into two separate living areas with a King Suite on one end with its own kitchenette and separate entrance, and a queen room that is connected to, and above the living room and kitchen area. Downstairs is a rec room with bunk beds and another bedroom with two twin beds. For larger groups there is even a new sofa bed in the main living room and two roll-away beds that bring the total sleeping capacity up to 12. There are also three full bathrooms with showers and a large and well appointed kitchen for preparing meals. The expansive decks are perfect for storing gear or soaking in the hot tub after a long day in the wilderness. Another nice perk to this property Is that the owner lives in a separate cabin on-site, so he's always available to help with any questions you might have during your stay. Whether you're here to enjoy the world-class backcountry skiing and snowmobiling, or to check out the abundance of wildlife in Yellowstone park, this cabin is the perfect accommodation to ensure that your trip is a memorable one.

Great place to rent for some peace and quiet. Kitchen was fully stocked with lots of pots/pans, skillet, pressure cooker, etc. short distance to town abcs the park.
Lovely cabin, newly renovated with three(!) full bathrooms (unheard of in this area.) Hiking trail out the back and great access to fishing and Yellowstone.
Anthony, the property owner lives in the adjacent cabin and was very helpful with advice on trail access and conditions.
The Wildflower was the perfect home base for our Yellowstone adventures. The property was excellent for our Minnesota group of 4 adults and 5 kids. The on-site hosts were welcoming and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Being only 10 mins from the North East entrance to YNP gave us quick access to Lamar Valley where we saw grizzly bear, black bear, wolf pack, countless bison, and more wildlife then any other place in the park. Important note if coming in on Beartooth pass from the east, Red Lodge is last large town after Billings to stock up on anything you may need. There are some general stores in Cooke City. We knew this ahead of time and worked perfectly to get groceries in Red Lodge. High powered zoom lens camera or spotting scope will enhance wildlife experiences. We hope to be back again someday!
This was our second time renting this lovely property. The house is well equipped and very clean and comfortable. A rental property with three full bathrooms is a rarity in the Cooke City area. The owner has a second house on the property, which is a bit remote, if you’re not familiar with the area. So check in is as simple as driving up and walking in.
Everything was perfect for our extended family of 9.We all enjoyed having a place to meet for meals and spend time together but when you needed space you could find that as well.It was nice to have the decks to hangout in and the younger adults made good use of the hot tub.We played records on the record player and borrowed the bear spray for some of our day hikes.Everyone enjoyed playing with the owners dog when he came around and we even had a moose visit one night. Thanks for sharing your place, dog and hospitality with us.The Ayala Family
This property has been lovingly and tastefully updated and was very clean. The showers had great water pressure! There are several separate sleeping areas, so it some level of privacy for our group of friends. We enjoyed sitting around the kitchen bar eating breakfast and later in the day reviewing all we had seen. Our host was very kind, friendly and generous. On our last evening, a beautiful, gray-colored, red fox was sitting in the driveway to greet us. It was a perfect way to end the trip.
If you can, don't miss the drive to Red Lodge on the Beartooth Hwy.
Disaster, falsely advertised, crooked owner never to be reached, run do not rent this place!
Falsely advertised stating that the owner lives on site, not true, it was the parents that could do nothing to help us but ask us to call the daughter and we tried for 3 hrs. and left many messages and no one called us back Even Vrbo could not reach the owner. King BR not in main house, outside and up stairs, tv's didn't work, no hairdryers anywhere. The worst was the 2nd night. When we arrived at the rental late from visiting the park there was an enormous amount of propane smell so strong we couldn't stay in the main house and fled to the outside upper unit to find that the odor was just as strong. We tried numerous times to reach the owner and left several messages. Also we were on the phone with Vrbo numerous times and they could not reach the owner. We told Vrbo that we were concerned for our safety with the horrendous propane odor inside and outside the rental. After 3 hrs again to no avail reaching anyone we fled the rental and had to drive 1 hr. 45 minutes to Cody, Wy to the closest hotel with avail. We had to cut our vacation short and request refund for 6 nights. It has been 17 days and we can't get the owner to respond to our texts, emails and phone calls. They don't even respond to Vrbo even with a case open against them. We have spoke with 7 Vrbo agents that seem to be getting nowhere with this owner. Not happy with Vrbo either. THE OWNER IS A CROOK THAT CHEATED US, SHOULD BE OUSTED FROM VRBO.
We loved the cabin! It had all the amenities we needed. It was really clean and comfortable and offered plenty of space for our group. It was also centrally located for all the activities we had planned. We enjoyed visiting with the on-site property owner who was very accommodating. We will definitely rent again!
Great place with plenty of space and cabin feel. Hot tub was nice to have and was well cared for. We left behind some souvenirs that manager found and was willing to ship to us! Above and beyond.
Very easy access to the park, plus some nice creeks to swim in near the house. The house was very well appointed and included bear spray that you could borrow. Just a few miles from Cooke City and Silver Gate "downtown" areas for some restaurants and coffee shops. Would try to hit a big grocery store before arrival if I had it to do over again (only small general store in town with limited supplies). Property manager was nearby and very helpful.
Just spent 4 days of our family vacation bonding and loving the beautiful surroundings at Wildflower Cabin. Bigger than pictured 8 of us loved having coffee on the outdoor porches, sharing dinner in the kitchen, hot tub soaking and roasting smores.
10 minutes from the least crowded and most scenic part of Yellowstone, The Lamar Valley. We easily got into the park with no lines and drove through at dusk to see bear cubs and wolves. On the way to the park, pass through the quaint town of Cooke City if you need to pick up groceries, a cup of coffee, dinner or souvenirs.
The cabin is located on famous 212 ,The Beartooth Hwy, so hikes, lakes, and swimming holes are out your front door. We loved taking a break from the park to see the wildflowers and alpine lakes near by or picnic at the waterfall 5 minutes drive.
The cabin was clean, comfortable, modern, and beautifully decorated with the perfect touches of Montana. Enough room to come together or have privacy.
Jacklyn, Elena and Tony were the most friendly, gracious and accommodating hosts. Jacklyn is quick to answer questions and help with anything you need.
The cabin and area are very beautiful. the property is great. However, located in very remote location, must bring own food. Extremely limited resources for food in the area. limited restaurants that were open or had power. The cabin has a generator, a plus.
Gorgeous, comfortable, quiet location stone's throw from Yellowstone!
We are so glad we chose this location for our first trip to Wyoming and Yellowstone (June 2021). We were two families of four who hadn't seen each other in a few years. The Backcountry Base Camp was everything that the VRBO description says AND MORE. In addition to what you read in the description, there are also large, wide porches surrounding three sides of the house, the hottub is larger than it appears in the photo, the beds are super comfortable, everything is new and clean, we had every supply and appliance we could imagine, we had a large fire pit all to ourselves, and the various living spaces WERE connected (something I wondered about before I arrived) yet were self-contained enough for privacy. The owner and manager lives on site and gave us many helpful suggestions, but only if we asked -- he left us alone and we hardly knew he was around. Besides the house itself, we were ultra pleased that we selected this location as opposed to numerous other possibilities near different entrances of Yellowstone. We were literally 7-10 minutes from the NE entrance to Yellowstone which puts you into the Lamar Valley where all the wildlife is. A benefit to this entrance is that many other entrances, such as the one nearest Old Faithful, were full of traffic at all times. We experienced limited traffic in a year that goes down as one of the busiest in the Yellowstone area, North, South, East, and West. We also loved the town of Cooke City - very quaint, quiet, friendly, artistic, great food and lots of variety of restaurants for a small town, and I was excited to learn that Ernest Hemingway lived in Cooke County for 5 years as a writer and based some of his stories on his experiences in the town and the NE area of Yellowstone. Highly recommended!!
The cabin is at an ideal location. It was great to get away from everything. We very much enjoyed the hot tub, large decks, and fire pit on the property. The hosts were very accommodating and were right there for if we needed anything. They were also super friendly and welcoming. The house had plenty of room to spread out and have some privacy. Everything was clean. We loved the carvings outside the cabin and the interior decorating was also very nice.
This was exactly what we were looking for when searching for a place near Yellowstone! Away from all the crowds, a beautiful home with all the amenities a family could need! Comfort at it's finest! And Anthony there to help with any needs we had!
A Must Stay! And going through Lamar Valley everyday...WOW!
