"Be warned: the hotel is undergoing renovations. We got there on Saturday afternoon and there were cranes and trucks and men hammering up siding. There were signs hanging that said the construction was only during weekdays, from 8-6 beginning at the end of August for 8 weeks. The front desk had no idea why they were there on a Saturday. The hotel badly needs the renovations, but it would've been nice to know up front. The bathrooms especially are in need of replacing. The tub bottom was not particularly clean and the walls in the bathroom were somewhat stained. The beds were comfortable, and we did use the smart TV apps, the mini fridge and the nearby ice machine. Just be aware of construction before you book for weekdays..."

"Candle Bay Inn was the perfect stop on our New England leaf-peeping tour! We booked a room with three beds, which was ideal for my dad, sister, and me. Connie was wonderful and even stayed late to check us in when our drive from Acadia took longer than expected. She also recommended a great place for dinner that was still open late, and in the morning, her daughter made us a delicious breakfast. The whole experience felt warm, welcoming, and cozy. It's exactly the kind of place you hope to find on a road trip. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Candle Bay Inn!"

"This house is very deceiving, Yes, it is a Victorian house but all the windows are new so no drafts. The bathroom is totally remodeled complete with a walk in shower with bench seating. The kitchen is modern with new fridge, induction stove, pots, pans, flatware, cookware and glassware! The heating system is new and works wonderfully. It is railroad style so you enter into the kitchen,walk thru the dining room (bathroom door is there) and back to the studio/living roomIf you are staying in Freeport proper you can walk everywhere. Close to the highway- we went to Portland (18 miles) and all the way to Bar Harbor (3hrs) to hike Acadia. Amy is a pleasure to deal with and stayed in constant communication with us to make sure we were settled in.Here is an example. The main room has a piano and I mentioned I was there for a musicians get together/jam. She had the piano tuned for me!We are planning to stay here next year and highly recommend this property and host to anyone"

"I am new to the bed and breakfast scene, so the the "check-in" was awkward. Since I arrived after dinner hours, there was no one to greet me and there followed a few minutes of awkward stumbling through halfways to find my room. Sean, one of the owners, found me and very genuinely welcomed me. I found the room to be very comfortable and the fire place to be extremely nice after a chily day on the shore. Breakfast was amazing and I felt like I was in a family member's kitchen. It was very welcoming and warm way to start the day. I would stay there again at any opportunity."
