The Karsten is not a high end hotel, but if you like the vibe of an antique store, you will love this hotel. Has views of Lake Michigan and is walking distance to variety of eating and entertainment establishments.
If you are wanting a Holiday Inn type stay, keep looking but if you want a laid back stay with a gracious host, book this hotel.
Alex is a wonderful host!! We had such nice visits with him! The front porch is so peaceful with a beautiful view of Lake Michigan!
The owner is very nice and will go out of his way to make sure you're stay is amazing.
The hotel has so much history inside.
Loved the decor.
I really can't stress how amazing the owner is. He made our stay. He showed us the bar which is amazing with its orginal floor and stained glass.
Full of character! The history and character absolutely cannot be found at other hotels. Great value. Could certainly use some upkeep, but it is clean and comfortable. Nice proximity to the lake for a beautiful walk out to the lighthouse.

Owner greeted us and was very friendly and chatty. The place is unique an amazing, wish we were staying longer to enjoy hanging in the lobby or the 2nd floor sitting area. Only downsides were wimpy shower output and no blinds on windows that faced east. Great AC though! Short walk to a good pub meal and super cold beers!
The hotel room was spacious and comfortable. There was an issue with our air conditioning and the staff changed our room right away. The hallways are quiet. Convenient street parking right in front. Don't let the lobby fool you, this is a gem.
We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Karsten Hotel, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Definitely not your average hotel stay!
The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service. The check-in process was seamless and quick, making us feel welcome right away.
The room was spacious, spotless, and uniquely decorated. The bed was incredibly comfortable.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the owner. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. His genuine hospitality and dedication to guest satisfaction were evident in every interaction.
We highly recommend Karsten Hotel to anyone looking for a home away from home stay.
We would definitely return on our next visit to Kewaunee.

Hey yall if you travel with a ton of luggage be forewarned there is no elevator but if you travel light like me this place is absolutely TOPS. Alex has the greatest customer service and loved our puppy! Gave her cheese and everything 😁 i loved the hob knob decor and vintage chairs also you gotta check out the jaguar under the glass table in the lobby. Literally a 5 minute walk to the beach and pier at lake michigan, 30 minutes from green bay, right round the corner from a cheese shop and 2 seconds away from the bowling alley which is only 3$ per 10 frames. Straight up will be coming back here anytime we come to wisconsin. 10/10
We booked Deluxe Q lake view on arrival were given a basic Q room. It appeared housekeeping had gotten distracted when cleaning the bathroom as it was partially completed, with the tub missed (had a presumably used towel, near empty & lid removed shampoo & a used bar of soap, along with hair from assorted parts of the body.
The owner was quick to respond, noting the Expedia booking was rate coded as Basic room & immediately offered to make it right with a new room. Alex, the owner & manager has had the place for 5yrs. He takes great pride in it & is happy to exchange stories. We thoroughly enjoyed the talks.
The lobby is filled with historical info & the closed bar is a marvel. Operation is more like a BnB than hotel. Meaning, the office area is often unmanned & much is on the honor system, including the dining area where water, soda, juice, fruit, bars, cereal, breads & accompaniments were available.
The rooms vary in size & all include tubs, some jetted. I could actually envision a less is more take, removing some of the elcectic decor to really let the historical property sing. As well as hiding mini-fridges in the wardrobe or removing. I'd recommend replacing shower curtains with washable ones.
What the property lacks in luxury, it makes up in character & definitely isn't for every traveler. It's old. The front door remains locked & you're given a key for that door, as well as your room.
As for ghosts, 4am running in the hall could have been or maybe it was guests
Little on the older side, cheap and just a place to lay down for a few hours.

We love the Karsten Hotel!! Alex is a wonderful host, very friendly and accommodating. We love the mystery and history of this place. We look forward to our next stay!!
Nothing in the area was came into a locked dark building. Honestly didn’t even stay the night I left 45 minutes into checking in. If you like ghosts and an old building this Is the place for you
Cool and unique old property. Owner/staff were great. Definately not your "big chain" hotel. Will definately consider returning the next time we stay in Kewaunee!

The historic building was great to stay in. We heard the foot steps the first night, and the music the second. Could have been our imagination of course.
This is an OLD hotel. I love old hotels. It has personality, character and it's own identity. It also has wear and tear. If you want boring corporate cookie cutter facilities, stay elsewhere. If you want a true travel experience, stay here.
Poor lighting on the stairs and upper floors. Rooms ok. The hotel is over 100 years old and so is the bed and pillows. No curtains on windows. Owner very friendly and helpful. Good for a cheap over night stay.
Very old, rundown motel. We didn't even have curtains or blinds of any kind in our room. I felt very unsafe the entire night and would never stay here again
