"My family of six had a wonderful stay at the River House. Having access to the beach via the river was one of the reasons we chose this home, and that did not disappoint. Also, I enjoyed meeting Mark and you can tell from your first interaction that he really wants to be involved and help you enjoy his home. He had the kayaks and paddle boards that we had rented there and ready for us to get into the water when we arrived, and his concierge fee to do this for us was not too bad. The fresh, cool, clear water of the river was refreshing and almost each day of our stay we would make the 5 minute paddle to the beach. We enjoyed the freshwater side of the beach but the ocean side is not really a swimming beach (were told by several locals not to go on the ocean side due to this being called “Shark Beach.”) We rented houses on four different Hawaiian islands this trip, and the River House was definitely one of our favorites. I will agree with the other reviews that the dogs are very loud when they get wound up, but having AC in the bedrooms was fantastic, and when we shut the windows and turned in the AC you don’t notice the outside noises. I will also agree with other reviews that there are more rules with this house than any other we stayed at, but that did not hamper our enjoyment of this home. We got good at taking off our shoes before climbing the stairs! If you want an authentic island experience out of the hustle and bustle, I think you will great enjoy Marks place!!"

"WOW is the best place to describe this property. It's in a beautiful area of the island, super private and quiet. Situated on Haena Beach, just steps to Tunnels Beach that offers the best snorkeling in Kauai. The views from the living room are spectacular. We enjoyed morning coffee watching the sunrise and planning the day's activities out on the lanai The house had everything we needed from kitchen utensils, to beach chairs, snorkeling gear, floats and an iced chest. There is 1 bedroom/bath upstairs with the rest of the living area. We let my Mom stay in that room so that she did not have to navigate the stairs as often (bad knees!). 2 of the bedrooms downstairs are ocean view, a 3rd with 2 twin beds would work well for kiddos! I loved the character of the house, a bit older but well kept. The property grounds are fantastic, one could spend all day admiring the plants and flowers. I was concerned that the house did not have AC, but staying in early June, it did not bother us, other than one night that was unusually still. But, they provide fans which helped our TX family who is used to AC get comfortable. We never had an issue with mosquitos as others noted in the reviews.A couple of tips: When you walk out on the beach from the house, take a right. Walk out to the far point for spectacular sunset views (we even saw monk seals swimming in the water!). If you walk out the left around the other point, you will be on Tunnels Beach. "We had an amazing time at this house. Beautiful ocean front property in a quiet neighborhood. It is an hour drive south to do most excursions. Hot tub was not working until our last night but the owner sent someone right away to check it-fortunately that was the only thing that didn’t work. The kitchen came very well stocked and the view was amazing! We all had a wonderful time there!"

"This property has everything you need for a fun day at the beach. We Went snorkeling at Tunnels Beach and it was great. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds very comfortable! The outdoor seating is GREAT. We truly enjoyed our 3 nights here"

"The house is in a beautiful location, and it is a very peaceful and serene location. The sound of the River right next to the house was very soothing. House is beautifully maintained, deck is great, kitchen is well set up with utensils for cooking in. Absolutely loved our stay there. The only drawback was the steep stairs to navigate to haul our luggage up to and down from the house. But, as it is a house on poles (as clearly shown in the photos) it was expected. Owner was great to deal with."
