"The room was clean and comfortable. One thing I found a bit unusual was that there was no hand soap in the toilet area near the small basin. I noticed the same in another hotel, so I’m not sure if this is common in Japan or specific to this hotel. The breakfast area was spacious with plenty of seating. I arrived around 9:00–9:15 am and didn’t have to wait to be seated, which was great. There was a good selection of both Western and Japanese breakfast options. However, as some other guests have mentioned, certain hot items such as steak and vegetables were not very warm. The display showed 50°C, but the food itself felt cooler than expected. I’m not sure if this is a hotel policy or something that was overlooked. The staff were friendly and very helpful. They even arranged to ship my luggage to my next hotel in Tokyo, which made my trip much easier. The location of the hotel is also excellent."

"A very good hotel, ideally located in central Kyoto, just steps from the river, Nishiki Market, and a covered shopping street. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The bed and pillows are firm, but I personally slept very well. My only critic is the laundry room, which is much too small for the size of the hotel. I had difficulty accessing a dryer before hours and had to hang my clothes in the room without having access to a drying racks."

"Staff are helpful. Excellent service from housekeeping. Luggage delivery is very convenient. the concierge has an alternate to the luggage they advertise which delivers late. the alternate was faster; Nice hotel"

"I would never stay here again. This is not a five star hotel. The rooms are beautiful but very small. There are no drawers or shelves so you have to live out of your suitcase. There is room for one carry on, another is simply in the way. Unlike other 5 star Japanese hotels who always have at least one English speaker on staff, they do not and communication is difficult. We endured the added insult of returning from 8 hours out of the hotel to our room undergoing cleaning. We wanted to wait in the lovely lobby and were told that we couldn’t and were escorted to the”guest lounge” which seemed to be a converted luggage area with room for 10 people and without even water available. They also offer a shuttle to the train station which is convenient because GO cabs cannot pick up at the hotel and other cabs take a while. We asked about reserving a set and were told it was first come, first serve and to show up 30 minutes ahead of time. This is not 5 star service. Again, there are much better hotels in Kyoto. "

"No one to help with luggage; front desk would not make dinner reservation--told to walk downstairs and do it myself; very small room; sink and vanity in bedroom area instead of the bathroom; no English television station; no view from bedroom to outside; charge for everything, for example the cappuccino at breakfast and ice at bakery; gym is very small, cold, bad smell, no water and no towels; service staff often unfriendly and unprofessional. Not recommended!"

"Our stay in Kyoto at this hotel was great overall. Lots of space and bigger beds than what we experienced in Tokyo. Breakfast was good, all of the amenities were great, and staff were all very friendly. The only critique I have is that there isn’t a drying machine. I assumed that when they listed they have a washing machine, a dryer is included. We had to dry our clothes in the shower room which they have this drying system but it’s not very good. They said it would take 1 hour for T-shirts and a bit longer for sweaters. It took us 12hrs and we still had to use the hairdryer for some of the damp clothes. I wish they would get a few dryers for the hotel. "

"The hotel doesn't have a main entrance in the usual sense of what you would expect. You have to use a side door at the front of the property and get a lift to the 4th floor. Not a major issue, but nobody is there to assist with bags etc. The location is excellent, You are right in the middle of a major shopping district with an abundance of bars and restaurants. Opposite the hotel is a main train staion so getting around was easy. But everything you need is easy on foot and really accessible. The hotel is really nicely appointed with a central garden. Note however, the hotel is 9-floors. The garden is in the central atrium of the hotel. We booked rooms with garden views, which had a terrace (not that we used it). The amenities were good, but a lot of the hotel amenties are open to the public. There is a shop and restaurants at ground and the two floors above which can get busy with shoppers. With the garden view rooms, you have access to a lounge. This was nice with plenty of nibbles and drinks (all included in the room rate). The fitness suite was also well appointed. The only real negative for me was the breakfast. It felt like a canteen, not an upmarket hotel. Nothing was laid at your table, you had to lay your own table by collecting cutlery, cups, plates (which were plastic!). The food wasn't great either. Would i stay here again? Probably not. For the price we paid, other hotels in other Japanese cities were far better quality and felt much more luxurious."
