Very comfortable stay on the futon - it was lovely to hear the waterfalls from our room. Location was lovely - bit of a walk from the main town of Nikko, but it was fine for us!
The staff were charming and so helpful.
The best partnof this hotel is the onsen, very easy to use the private facility. The hotel is located quite a distance from the train station so it could be difficult to access depending on weather. However it was close to Toshogu shrine and the Kanmangafuchi Abyss was right next door. Highly recommend if you like relaxing in onsen waters.
Amazing location for a balance of being connected with nature in Nikko and close enough for transportation to the city by bus! Owners were attentive and very helpful in helping you arrange for transportation (taxi) in advance, giving tips of the local area, and were overall a joy!
A very friendly place. It was modestly priced in a place where that is notable. Breakfast cost extra, but was quite nice. And best of all, they had a hot spring hot tub.
A lovely little spot, next to the river. You can hear the river lightly in the background from my room, which made it lovely to fall asleep to. A very friendly, warm welcome. Clean, comfortable - the only thing to note is if you’re arriving in the evening like I was, and walking from bus stop, it can be a dark walk, especially if you’re alone. But waking up there is beautiful surrounded by forests.
The onsen is lovely too, looking out over the river, and private!
At check-in, the host gave us a quick tour of the essentials of the property, and talked us through a map of the local area (in English). We were then shown to our room, and I amost cried, it was so beautiful - tatami floors, futons, beautiful outlook to the river with the trees showing their autumnal colours. A little way out of town, but definitely walkable, and such a peaceful, beautiful setting.
This inn is great for foreign tourists! The owner speaks English very well and signs are included in the room to explain how to use the A/C or heater unit. Private onsen to enjoy the river view, though almost all rooms face the river as well. Futon is more comfortable than a bed, with two types of pillows. Nearby park area for hiking with jizo statues and waterfalls. Can walk to Toshogu Shrine as well. If you're into a lighter breakfast of a hard boiled egg, delicious bread and a fruit plate, it's great! Highly recommend this place for a relaxing experience!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Beautiful setting, walkable to bus stops to get to where you want in Nikko. There are at least 3 or 4 restaurants you can walk to. Otherwise you’ll have to catch the bus to town for more options. Rooms are very small but very clean. Not too many electrical plugs for charging devices and they are all located near the ground. Personable staff and can provide the services you need. Convenient coin operated laundry facility. Very nice onsen in which you can reserve your own private time
The owner is lovely and very helpful - although we are fans of Japanese food, we enjoyed the (Western) breakfast (which had to be ordered every day in advance) and the owner was helpful in giving advice and tips for Nikko's many attractions and for places to eat nearby. Some of the latter were a bit "hit and miss" - the Chinese restaurant wasn't very good and, despite being cheap, the food was stodgy and not very tasty. The Indian was better and (obviously) the local food options were the most recommendable.
Use of the onsite onsen was well-regulated (with a sign saying "occupied" or "vacant" on the door) and, at the time of year we were there, we only had one other person/couple as "competition" for it! We especially enjoyed the warm/hot water after we were surprised by quite a heavy fall of snow in Nikko!
All in all, a very interesting and enjoyable stay in Nikko - special thanks to the owner of this ryokan!
I was in Japan for 2 weeks and this was possibly my favorite place I stayed at. The owners are so nice and welcoming. They speak great English, so that made my life easier! The nicest lady showed me around everything and took time to explain every appliance and amenity with demonstrations. They also held my bags for me after check-out so I could explore.
The private onsen was fantastic - the afternoon light, and river view, is beautiful. My room (western) was very comfortable. Great walking distance to so many historic sites. I didn’t need a bus or taxi staying here and I am not a very active person. There is a 24 hour Lawsons nearby.
Just remember: you are in the mountains, in a very humid environment. There may be the occasional bug or unexpected plant life, but everything was clean and well-cared for. Bed was very comfy and fresh. This isn’t a luxury resort; it’s like staying in a very nice family cottage. That, and the hosts, are why it’s special. I would come back to Niko just to stay here, even if I didn’t visit any tourist sites. Definitely try this place!
Beautiful setting in wonderful part of Japan. Traditional Japanese hotel...bed/futon bed a little too hard for my western back. Spa was lovely, as was the owner... who couldn't be more friendly or helpful (typical of almost Japanese). Nikko seems quite 'dead' at night. Perhaps we were too late or missing something but struggled to get anything to eat in the evening.
Great location, in a walking distance to the main sightseeing spots in Nikko (as well as a useful convenience store), yet tucked away in a quiet area. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Highly recommended.
There was a private onsen with a view of the stream. I’d love to return in autumn to see the leaves changing. The staff is very friendly. The bus stop was anbout 800 meters away, close to the Family Mart. Our family enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
Small, very good affordable option along the river within walking distance of the main shrine sites and immediately adjacent to the trail to the Kanmangafuchi Abyss. Seems to be routinely booked by hiking tour groups, at least the two night we spent there. The hotel showed no availability on their website, but I was able to book a room on Expedia.
The woman who owns the property is very friendly, knowledgeable about the area, and speaks very good English. The room was clean and spacious, and the private bath area was excellent! You can open the window to listen to the river while you soak. 💕 The location was excellent with most of the things we wanted to see within a 20 min walk.
We loved our stay here. Only a quadruple traditional was available for our time (2 of us) so the room was very spacious since they only lay out 2 futon instead of 4. First time sleeping on futon, which was comfortable for me but maybe some people may find hard. The place was very clean and quiet, at the edge of town next to stream. Unfortunately we couldn’t hear the stream very well over the sound of the heater. Down steep hill with no sidewalk from bus stop, we found it easier to walk up on less steep lower road back toward station to hit lower bus stop. Breakfast was very good! Wish we had more time there.
Nous avons passé une bonne nuit dans un cadre magnifique, un onsen qui peut-être privatisé, un super petit déjeuner. On peut facilement se déplacer à pieds.
