Very disappointing stay — we ended up checking out three days earlier than originally planned.
The facilities are clearly outdated. The shower is built into a bathtub with only a curtain, which feels inconvenient and not in line with what you would expect at this price point. The air conditioning also performed poorly — even in April, the room was warmer than the outside temperature.
For guests traveling with dogs, there is an additional €10 per night fee, and pets cannot be left alone in the room for more than one hour. This restriction is quite limiting and not clearly justified.
The biggest drawback, however, is the location. The hotel is in Vila Nova de Gaia, which requires at least 20–25 minutes of driving to reach the main attractions in Porto, often with heavy traffic. While public transport is available, we eventually moved to a centrally located hotel where everything was within walking distance — a significantly better experience.
Additionally, we found that the water boiler in the room was leaking. This was reported to the hotel, but no action was taken to repair or replace it during our stay.
Ultimately, we chose to forfeit three nights of our booking rather than continue staying under these conditions, which reflects how unsatisfactory the experience was.
Nice business hotel, would not use it for recreational stay. Great staff, fine room - pillows a bit large/hard, but good facilities and breakfast. Dinner also good - and ask staff for guidance, some very good local restaurants close by (lot of stairs down to the port)
Good little hotel and facilities for young children. We had a lovely stay and would return. Only downside was the room was a bit small for the four of us but then again we were out and about for most of the days. Location good and only a €4 Uber ride into the old town
Nice location close to Porto.
Fantastic breakfast. Silent hotel with walking distance to arrabida shopping centre. You cant walk over the closest bridge Ponte de Arrábida when going to porto. Bolt is cheap, take bolt over the bridge and walk the rest.
I really recommend the hotel for familys.
Overall good.
With Uber also very practical to reach the old city or sea shore.
Breakfast crowded and no wi-fi in room for 2 days, but this is minor inconvenience.
Kids loved the pool.
We traveled as a family, and found the novotel very family friendly. The playground inside (with ikea Kitchen, ikea tunnel, ikea darts, etc) and outside (slide, check) at the beautiful garden. The rooms are big enough for 2 adults and two small children.
The only thing is, the kids pool was a bit dirty as everyone has to walk through it, to get to the adults pool.
Staff was really nice, the room ok but the air conditioning was not perfectly working and was very slow. Pool was often crowded and we had an electricity shortage in the night and in the morning. I don’t know the cause but it tainted a little our stay.

The room was clean but I would deffo say the hotel needs an update very dated. Very close to shopping centre. Great that offered free car parking very comfy room
If you are visiting Porto with a car this is the place to stay. Easy parking. Close to the old city. We drive into the old Porto at night and got lucky with parking but if I had to do it again I would uber it in and walk around. The sunset from this property is stunning. Stunning over the Atlantic. Hotel was very comfortable.
