We had high hopes when we booked Mauad Hotel — it’s new, the lobby is gorgeous, and the service at check-in was excellent. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.
The rooms were a major disappointment and didn’t match the upscale look of the lobby. Furniture felt low-quality, and simple amenities like bathrobes, slippers, and proper toiletries were missing. Even the air freshener was overpowering, and there were no plugs in the bathroom for a hair dryer.
We have stayed at dozens of hotels in Santo Domingo and many more internationally, and we have *never* experienced anything like this.
Our biggest issue — the noise. We were traveling with our two young daughters, and both nights we stayed, the bass and music were unbelievably loud. The first night we didn’t realize it was coming from the hotel, but the second night we complained around 9pm. We were told a private rooftop party would finish by 12:30am. After 1am, it only got worse. We changed rooms multiple times (from the 11th floor to the 9th, and later again down the hall), but the music continued — eventually coming from the hotel’s own disco. It was after 3am before we found a room that was only *slightly* quieter.
The staff did try to help by moving us, but nothing truly resolved the problem. If you want to stay inside a nightclub, this is it.
