"Our room looked out on the ocean and we loved sitting on the balcony listening to the waves. We also enjoyed the hot tub each night. The breakfast had something for everyone from eggs, bacon or sausage, waffles, pastries and bagels, fruit, yogurts, etc."

It made the restaurant feel more like a restaurant, less open to the hustle and bustle of the reception area and the passage through to the pools. "We stay here every time we travel to the Outer Banks. It is a small older hotel. It is clean, the staff is friendly, breakfast is standard hotel breakfast, it is good always well stocked. This hotel is convenient to everything we enjoy while in the area. Close to good restaurant's. We will be back"

"Room was decently clean other than the bathroom. There was what appeared to be feces smeared in several places that we cleaned ourselves so we could get settled into our room. "

"This hotel is a great value. The room was spotless. Check in was a little interesting, a note in the lobby said to call a phone number for check in. The first attempt to call went to voicemail. But about 5 minutes later I was able to get a hold of someone and check in. I’ve stayed here for years, I hope this place can stay as good as it was in the past, even if I had to pay 20% more I would to keep this place as an option. "

"The First Colony Inn is a lovely old property in a great location for visiting the Outer Banks. Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Buffet breakfast choices were very good and the hot option varied each day. There's a wonderful beach opposite the inn and a good selection of restaurants and shops nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return."

"Cozy vintage beach cottage. Easy access to beach, quiet. Perfect for offseason getaway for a few days. People have been coming back to these cottages for decades for good reason. We loved the kitchen with full size appliances and lots of space. Pack your groceries and cook all your meals here, the cottage was perfect for a family of 4. Comfortable beds in two bedrooms. Nice living room/dining room. We spent four nights and were not disappointed. "

"Seems strange but the property was all but empty, off season, yet the room above us was booked with noisy guests and we were put in a room with a parking lot view when better views were available. Upgrading rooms…good thing but was not a bother to us. Some upgrades were done in our condo which were very nice!"

"It was wonderful but please warn guests of steep, narrow steps to 2nd floor rooms. They were manageable for me but could be difficult if you have a bad back or breathing problems."

"Property included lots of activities for families - shuffleboard, table tennis and indoor pool were our favorites. Everything was clean and stocked ( pots, extra bedding) and included free laundry machines! "

"Unfortunately, our room was not up to our standards. The bathrooms were not fully cleaned and the air conditioning went out twice. The day we came in (July 20, 2023), the upstairs units were 78 degrees and blowing warm air. Maintenance was called and showed up. We were told that it was repaired. It took several hours for those units to cool down. Because check in is 4:00, it took hours for these rooms to cool down to make sleeping comfortable. "Great stay at Roanoke Island Inn! Service was amazing and loved that they give you complimentary water bottles and snacks/beverages to make the stay that much nicer. The room was very clean and the AC unit worked great. The location is so nice with a very short walk to numerous shops and restaurants. Would definitively stay here again!"
