Large 17 bedroom holiday home in French Pyrenees with private garden and pool

10/10 Excellent

"The lovingly restored former Hotel D’Angleterre with great garden and swimming pool. Ideal for a large family of 21. Our genial host, Martin, was on hand to advise and was a great help when we had a medical issue. The small town of Vernet-Les-Bains is delightful and the towns people friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed a lovely evening meal at Bistro le Cortal up by the church. The service was friendly and excellent. The four main dishes on the menu gave plenty of choice, fish, duck, steak and a vegetarian option. One family of our party spent a morning at the Spa and reported favourably (budgie smugglers and swimming caps required for men, which caused some hilarity). Villefranche de Confient nearby is especially worth a visit and you can catch le Train Jeune from there with the possibility of open carriages to enjoy the views as it ascends the mountain. There are no downsides if you are looking for a holiday in beautiful Occitanie. We flew from Leeds Bradford to Perpingnan. A two hour fifteen minute flight. Then hired cars for the one hour drive down to Vernet Les Bains, while others arranged private coach transfer without difficulty. We ranged in age from one year to seventy four. As we live in different parts of the UK it was great to catch up as a family. Highly recommended hiring, host and area. "

"Spacious and cool apartment in a small complex. The kitchen is small but has two cooker rings, a fridge, kettle and microwave. There is an oven in the shared section together with a washing machine, dryer and big freezer. The on-site restaurant is good, set meals only and only open for dinner at the weekend when we were there. Breakfast available every day if pre-booked. A nice pool that was popular with families. A 10 min drive into Banyoles for main shops. Overall, a good value place for a few days stay, or longer."

"The hotel, room and location are beautiful. The property itself is spacious, comfortable and the interior design reflects the surrounding area and vibe quite well without being gimmicky. The owner was there to greet us when we arrived and give us a little tour. We did get the impression that it's not currently being run as a "full time" operation because we were the only guests and never saw any other staff apart for the nice lady serving us breakfast. Speaking of which - the owner asked what time we wanted breakfast when he checked us in and we gave a time. But was very nice, particularly for local standards. Although we were a little surprised by the cost - it ended up being about £85 for 4 breakfasts (2 people x 2 days) and we ha"

"A nice, good value hotel in a great location for walking, medieval towns and the Yellow Train. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were disappointed that the spa was closed while we were there (staffing problems). The room was very quiet, clean and comfortable although our shower was a bit cramped and awkward to use."

"What I would call a nice old-fashioned hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful but spoke very little English. Google Translate was a massive help. The room was clean large comfortable with doors to balcony which overlooked the car park car parking was free of charge. Hotel has a bar where drinks were available but no restaurant breakfast was continental with an excellent choice even had English breakfast tea although we were only there for one night while my partner was crossing the Pyrenees on his bicycle thoroughly recommend."
