"The property itself is in a wonderful, peaceful location. The junior suite was huge and appropriately appointed with period furniture. However, a plumbing issue resulted in our shower/bath not emptying. This wasn’t a major issue as we were only staying overnight but temperatures were close to 40C. The night manager appeared more concerned about the impact on the next booking rather than our comfort & we had no alternative but to leave in the morning without showering…."

"Great property in an outstanding location near an entrance to the Matera Sassi. Clean rooms and comfortable beds were nice to stay in. In addition to the Sassi access and hotel cleanliness, the breakfast was truly outstanding. It featured a variety of coffees, pastries and fruits along with other breakfast items in an attractive, large dining room. The desk is attended at all times and the building is secured at night. My only mild criticism is better information on parking prior to check in would be a plus. A secured garage is under the hotel and available for $20 Euro per might. I'd stay there again, both for the hotel and the ancient attractions of Matera."

The architecture and design used elements of stone, wood, metal and textile in a modern way that still honors the past. The hosts were exceptionally attentive and friendly. The breakfast was as delicious as it was beautiful. I will hold this place in my heart’s memory."

"We had such a wonderful and memorable experience staying at this beautiful cave hotel. The cave room was truly special and made our stay feel unique and unforgettable. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were so kind, welcoming, and pleasant. Everyone made us feel comfortable and well taken care of. We genuinely enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a special experience in Matera."

"The palazzo is a lovely old house in the center of town right off the main square. The secret sauce here is the large, beautiful garden in back and the extremely personalized service. The staff makes every effort to please and assist. The general approach is thoughtful and old school in a nice way. We had a large room facing the street that was comfortable with high ceilings and lots of space. Bernalda, at first, seems like a not particularly lovely little town but it does grow on you. The house is infused by the interests and personality of the owner Francis Ford Coppola -- probably the principal reason most people visit. Fortunately, the hotel mostly lives up to the expectations..."
