The Hotel at the University of Maryland

The Hotel at the University of Maryland

8/10 Good
"Our stay at The Hotel at the University of Maryland was pleasant but somewhat underwhelming given the price and the expectations associated with the property. We were celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday and had hoped for a more elevated experience. Upon arrival, we were not greeted or offered assistance with our luggage. Check-in was smooth, but the overall level of hospitality felt fairly standard. Although the hotel was busy with football-related guests, I believe every paying guest should receive consistent attention and service. There were also some wonderful highlights. The bartenders on Saturday evening were friendly and personable, and Frank, who appeared to be a manager, thoughtfully directed us to additional elevators when the main ones became congested. Our dinner at GrillMarX was fantastic and the perfect way to end our stay. Overall, while we appreciated these standout experiences, I expected more consistent hospitality and attention to detail given the price."

"very nice clean room, moderately comfy beds, conveniently around the corner from a bus stop. the staff was very kind and even allowed us to leave pur bags there after checkout until we got our train home in the evening. my only complaint is that the toilet ran very loudly the entire time. solid place for the price."

"Pros: clean rooms, friendly staff, ample parking, snacks/bev purchases available via refrigerator Cons: limited food choices in a 2 mile radius, no hotel bar, no hot breakfast even though the website stated so."

Lord Baltimore Hotel

Lord Baltimore Hotel

8/10 Good
"Very cool renovated historic hotel. You get the feeling of being in a place rich in history, but with a clean, updated lobby and rooms. Although numerous events were clearly taking place on lower floors (as I could tell from the loads of gift bags at the hotel lobby, the staffed security desks visible when the elevator doors opened on the 9th, 10th, and 11th floors, and the numerous guests on and off the elevators moving between those floors), from where I stayed on the 17th floor it was super-quiet. The elevators themselves are old, and one was a bit shaky, but they were clean and arrived quickly. The room renovations were clearly done in a rush (paint spatter on the bathroom door, visible screw holes where towel bars were moved), but they didn't impact usability and were very minor. The only issues were phone service going in and out when I was in my room, and a shortage of front desk staff at check-in (1 staffer at 4pm on a Friday, a line of 12 waiting guests across the lobby), but for the price, this place is a fantastic value. Will be back!"
