"The service at the Neela was unparalleled. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful, but never fawning or in the way.
Make sure to visit not only their downstairs cafe, but also their rooftop restaurant.
Highly recommend."

"A wonderful stay in the heart of Stone Town!
We stayed at Emerson Spice during our trip to Zanzibar and what a fantastic place it is!
The hotel is full of character, with beautiful traditional architecture and a real sense of Zanzibar’s history. It’s completely different from your typical hotel, which is exactly what makes it so special.
The location is brilliant for exploring Stone Town, with everything within easy walking distance. The atmosphere is relaxed and authentic, and staying here...

Very unique and one of a kind hotel in the middle of stone town. Surely you can settle for comfort and choose Hyatt but you can do that anywhere in the world. Emerson Spice is a truly exceptional hotel with a very attentive staff. You will be wowed!

If you're the type of traveler who eats at McDonald's in other country's, then this property is probably not for you, but if you want to immerse in the local culture, its fantastic. Make sure you specify a bathroom in your room, unless you're ok with sharing, and make sure you arrange for a pickup at the airport for transportation to the hotel. The street is about 5 feet wide, and the van has to park a few blocks away. The area adjacent to the hotel is a lot like Marrakech, Morrocco with...

Stayed here for one week and enjoyed it. The hotel is on a fairly busy beach in Stone Town. Breakfast was excellent, dinners were sometimes good and sometimes not but the salad bar was great. It is safe to walk around Stone Town with plenty of restaurants, souvenir shops, fruits and spices for sale. There is a nice ice cream store right across from the hotel and although most places take US$ there is a money exchange very close by (on the other side of the building tunnel with good rates). Great location-within walking distance of Darjani Market and Freddie Mercury’s house. The staff was attentive and helpful. The room I stayed in was huge and clean. It was 3 flights up but they help you with your luggage.
They offer spa services which is done in a hotel suite. The massage I had was terrific.
My only regret is I didn’t have more time there.

We absolutely loved everything about the Tembo Hotel! Everything was great-from a speedy check-in and check-out to the incredible staff that made sure we were always well taken care of at all times. This is a beautiful property with much charm-take the time to explore the different floors and rooftop views! I also can't say enough about the amazing breakfast that's included. Staff was undoubtedly the most considerate, best trained, thoughtful and improvisational of anywhere I have ever stayed, bar none and that includes lots of Shangri-Las, Peninsulas, Four Seasons, Ritzes and so on. It's a small mostly tourist hotel but I had friendly conversations -- and unusually creative, thoughtful and staff-initiated contacts on items from meals to hallway gadgets to knowing how to light a photo of me in the dining room to walking and shopping. The rooms are great; spacious, clean and well-stocked. Free wireless also made things nice. Our room was on the pool side and the view was still great. If you're a fan of Zanzibari doors, you'll enjoy this place. Breakfast is on the front balcony with a wonderful view overlooking the ocean.

If you are looking for a clean and good place to stay and for comfort in stonetown, i would deffinitely recommend this hotel. It is in the middle of the town yet feels like away from all that dirt and crowd. Best choice and quality.
But exchange rates are very low in this hotel when compared to anywhere in zanzibar.

In the old Stonetown, very easy to get lost in this old town but we were very close to beach so found it a bit easier to get back to the hotel. Great restaurant on top where we ate on arrival at night and turned out to be the best of all the places we ate afterwards. Beds were comfy, good international TV, bathroom and shower very nice. We had no view at all so understand we should have asked for upper floors but did not spend much time in the room

WOW, the property is very relaxing. It’s very beautiful and the staff , I mean there perfect from the manager to the waiters/bartenders and women that keep the rooms immaculate. They treated me so well, the food is amazing and the views from the bungalows are very beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a beautiful experience of Zanzibar and the spectacular ocean views it has to offer.
