"We upgraded (paid extra) to reserve a higher level room. This turned out not to be an upgrade because when we arrived we realized 1 of the 2 elevators was not working. Later we were told 1 elevator was out because it hadn’t been inspected as it should be. After we arrived, checked in and settled in to our 9th floor room, we were notified BOTH elevators were out. We reached out to the front desk and were asked “you can’t take stairs?” From that point on, elevators were repaired and then back down again. Since we had to leave the room at a minimum to eat, during our stay we had to take stairs from 9th floor down once and then up once. This was a huge problem for 2 people that aren’t in tip top cardio shape and 1 that has asthma. For travelers that verify a place has elevators before booking, this was a big let down and inconvenience."

"This rental was perfect for my husband and I and our dog. The king bed in the loft area was very comfortable. Beautiful ocean views. Great deck and little yard with gates- perfect for our dog. Plenty of lawn chairs on the deck too! Situated in a quiet area yet within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Not too far a drive to many amazing parks with extensive biking trails. Responsive owner! We had a fantastic time!"

"The floors were dirty. The house smelled, as if it had been closed up for some time. The decor was great but the floor sloped significantly in kitchen/dining error. Some of the appliances were unclean. The ad said it was a 3 bedroom & 2 bath home. It was a very small 3 bedroom & ONE indoor bathroom & an outside communal bathroom. I find that to be false advertising. The lady that came by & brought gjft was super nice & unexpected. Lastly, the furnishings, especially the recliner (old & broken) were worn & not up to par. Our trip wasn't effected by these items but needed to be noted."

"We came on this trip to relax and this home provided everything we needed for that. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Plenty of room both inside and out to sit and enjoy the home. We loved how close the home was to the beach and the huge selection of beach chairs to use. Home is close enough to walk to local shops, restaurants, and bars if you like. We wanted to cook at the property some and we were pleased with the selection of kitchen items available to prepare our meals. We did reach out with some questions and we received a response very quickly. My wife loved sitting in the front room with all the windows while she was reading. We feel like this home provides everything is claims in the listing and we would stay here again."

Unless your idea of retreat involves windows vibrating from mediocre bands and rappers until 11 PM, this isn't a retreat.The Reality:Sound: You are 50 steps from a loud outdoor stage. We couldn’t hear our own tablet at night. Our only "quiet" night was when it rained and the venue closed.Maintenance: Musty sheets and nasty-tasting ice.Logistics: The shower lacks basic shelving (products go on the floor), and loud trucks arrive at dawn to service the bar next door."I plan to be a frequent visitor to this area and enjoy the local venues, but misrepresenting a high-traffic noise zone as a 'retreat' is a failure in hospitality. I request that the listing be updated to include a noise disclosure."Positives: The beach is lovely and Bert’s is convenient, but the lack of transparency from Carolina One is disappointing. A "retreat" implies peace—this was a 12-hour-a-day concert."
