Today we visited Rhododendron Park. Last year we were too late for blossom. This year timing was right. Rhododendron blooming is at its best in early June.

The park’s official name is Alppiruusupuisto, Rhododendron Park, It is also known as Rodopuisto or Rhodopuisto. It is an eight-hectare area, which was originally bog.

It functions simultaneously as a park open to the public and as the University of Helsinki’s plant breeding experimental site − a solution unique in the world. The oldest rhododendrons have been planted in 1975, when the experimental site for the University of Helsinki’s plant breeding programme was developed in the area.

"Very enjoyable stay at Radisson Red Helsinki. Our room (twin) was spacious clean and comfortable and quiet. We had breakfast included there was a good selection of food and drinks available which set us up nicely for the day. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, we were able to leave our luggage in the luggage storage after we checked out and go out for the day collecting it on our way back to the airport which meant we could make the most of our couple of days in Helsinki the hotel is located a few minutes walk away from the main railway station in Helsinki next to a lovely park and botanical gardens "

"Great hotel for waiting for a connecting flight or for someone who likes to watch the airport traffic - I had a view to the apron from my room. From the hotel you cross a short bridge directly into the terminal. It takes 30 minutes to get to the centre of Helsinki (Ring Rail Line). The room is small but very functionally furnished, so you have enough space. Good bed. Minibar, bathroom with shower and Rituals toiletries, no safe. Good breakfast, served from 0400, so you have the opportunity to have breakfast even before an early morning flight. Very good Cocktail bar NÒR, pleasant bartenders, excellently prepared drinks."
