"It’s a utilitarian budget hotel without some pretty standard amenities like AC or in room WiFi, but for what it is it’s fantastic. Very close to some beautiful parks, and the bay views are great. "

"The Wild Ginger offers the true big island lodging experience. Staff is young, very friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable, clean and have a lovely vintage vibe. Anyone that has something negative to say about this hotel probably shouldn't be visiting this island. This place rocks! Stay Here!"

"Mahana House was a lovely, well-appointed lodging. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the comfy robes, lanai for morning coffee and evening cocktails, and the yummy fruit we picked on the farm. The shared kitchen and laundry had everything we might have overlooked. We even enjoyed fresh homemade banana bread from the housekeeper, Val. We grabbed a cooler and beach towels for day trips. We were able to do laundry before leaving. The nearest restaurants were back in Hilo, but the drive was easy and scenic. If you are looking for a relaxing, comfortable place to stay, then Mahana House will be perfect for you. "

"This is a great place to stay to get away from it all! Close enough to Hilo to get back into the all of you want. We also wound up driving north around the island to the west side a bit more than towards Hilo. Just sitting on the porch and looking out at the sky & ocean was so peaceful. Wish we had better weather. Got 1.5 sunrises and one night starry sky out of 7 nights but, that was only the fault of Mother Nature. Still so peaceful in the rain. The cottage itself is fine for two people, tho I can’t imagine a third person being comfortable. The only thing I did not know about before booking from reading reviews, was that the ginger cottage was right next to the main house. Not sharing a wall, but a car port. They have tried to do a good job separating it and noise was only an issue a few times, we did not even bring it up since it was my fault for possibly not asking that question before booking. As I saw nothing about it being so close to the main house in reviews. And many other places we looked at it was a very obvious. The pineapple cottage is a bit more on its own. I would probably book that one next time. Great hosts! Thank you again."
