"Sultanhan Hotel has a lot going for it, especially its location in the heart of the old city on the Topkapi Peninsula, within easy walking distance of Istanbul's top tourist attractions. The view over the city and the Bosphorus Strait from its 6th floor breakfast room on a clear day is breathtaking. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful; communication in English was not a problem. The buffet breakfast was good. However, the hotel is a little old-fashioned and could do with some modernisation, notably the shower and WC in our private bathroom. The double bedroom itself was spacious and quiet but the furniture was distinctly "period"; the mattress was adequate. There was no bar in operation, although there was one along one side of the large ground floor space, full of "antique" furniture but uninviting as a sitting area. It is easy to see why it is "special class" - it is unclassifiable by modern standards. The building was once government offices, converted to a "boutique" hotel several years ago. The hotel was good value overall, especially given its location."
