A hidden gem tucked away in an unexpected corner of South Melbourne. From the moment you enter the lobby, you’re transported into an elegant, thoughtfully designed retreat from the bustle of the city.
Our room was spacious and beautifully considered, with luxurious amenities that made the stay feel special.
We particularly looked forward to the pool, sauna and steam room, but sadly these spaces didn’t reflect the care evident elsewhere. The sauna floor was covered in hair, the steam room had an unpleasant smell, and no towels were available, despite it being Saturday.
Breakfast was equally mixed. The café is charming and full of character, yet the service felt oddly flat, almost hollow. Despite ample staff, communication was disjointed. The mechanics of service were there, but not the warmth, attentiveness or ease one expects at this calibre. We were initially told only one breakfast was included in our booking. This proved incorrect, but took 20 minutes to resolve, with little grace or effort to put us at ease.
Despite these shortcomings, we genuinely enjoyed our stay. Hannah Street Hotel is beautifully conceived, with an intimacy and sense of place that set it apart. What it lacks is the human warmth to match: a genuine welcome, instinctive attentiveness and that quiet generosity of spirit that makes guests feel truly cared for. The interiors promise something exceptional; I hope, in time, the hospitality will fulfil that promise.
The location of the hotel was not really that convenient unless you wanted to be in the South Quay area. We arrived after mid night and the area airing the hotel was very quiet and next to a large flyover. The hotel staff were helpful and the breakfast was good. I didn’t particularly like the industrial vibe of the hotel but each to their own!!
First impressions count: The main hotel entrance is located across from the Crown MultiLevel Car park on the side of a freeway underpass that literally makes you feel unsafe: Abandoned shopping carts, broken glass, graffiti, unidentifiable fluids on the ground that you have to drag your suitcase through. Once inside the hotel there are stairs and no-one around to help you with your suitcase. At the time of my check in there was a noisy function in the small lobby and I had to literally shout to get my check in information across.
The rooms are good in layout, industrial style with bare concrete ceilings. One pair of slippers only. The carpet feels dirty and room service didn’t even bother hanging up the robes, they were just thrown onto the bed. Milk in the fridge was expired by a month. The breakfast was good but fairly limited, excellent in duration though - until 12pm. The pool area looks great. Staff was friendly. Overall - would I stay here again? Absolutely not, just because of the entrance situation. Who wants to stay in a five star hotel where the approach feels like you are in a dangerous and unsanitary area?
I think this hotel is overhyped. Really nice rooms (well designed and good size), but a strong drain smell in the bathroom, and soundproofing between rooms was not great. But what lets this hotel down more so is its weird vibe - it feels completely soulless. A really strange, almost sinister feeling in the common areas. The F&B offerings were a complete let-down. Plus the location isn't great.
Really great hotel. Location is a little tricky and right by an overpass although you would never know it once you are inside the hotel. Great staff, amenities and value for money. 100% would recommend and the bar makes some fantastic cocktails.
Love how well designed this hotel is, and the rooms are really cool but that’s about where it ends unfortunately. The location is downright weird. It’s extremely hard to get an Uber from because no one can work out how to get to it as it’s under a bridge. Secondly, my aircon was not working and the hotel moved my room, but in the process downgraded me. If you’re going to do that, you should tell the customer first. Lastly, I asked for a late checkout and they advised I already had a late checkout of 12pm. Isn’t 12pm the standard now days. Anyway an overall decent hotel but not a great location and room to improve on the service side.
Breakfast is à la carte of a limited menu. Ours was included with a dish, coffee/tea and a juice. The breakfast was delicious but the menu is very limited. The baked eggs came with one slice of toast. The only juice they had was apple and green. The breakfast room is also quite limited in terms of seating and the seating is very close together. It was very busy when we got down there Sunday morning. I suggest going earlier if you can swing it.
The rooms were immaculate. Upon check in I was given the wrong style room - the room below my room. I rang reception and was told I was in the right room but the room given was noticeable smaller
This was an exceptional property - the staff, decor, cleanliness and facilities were faultless. The abundance of seating areas and gathering spaces was a welcome surprise! We enjoyed the DJ and happy hour drinks in the cosy foyer bar and breakfast at Coupette was delicious!
Stayed at Hannah St for my 30th Birthday, staff were incredible helpful and friendly, room was immaculate and the pool facilities were very well maintained. 10/10
