The rooms are large and decorated in the heritage style expected for this hotel. I stayed for the architecture of this hotel and was somewhat disappointed with my stay. Only one staff member was on reception and dealing with some complex issues for another customer. The wait was long after delayed flights. Was given a room with twin beds despite travelling solo. The tv service was out & no menus available in for room service that closed shortly. Once ordered down at reception, salad arrived quickly and was delicious. I wish I could’ve stayed more than one night and had a better first impression.

Great location and friendly staff. Restful night sleep with comfortable bed and pillows. But the hotel is definitely feeling its age. For a good price I'd recommend it.

Our stay was nice but a little underwhelming, friendly concierge staff at the front, left our things and had a look around the city which was nice. Went to check in on return and there was one staff on to check in about 8 people, needless to say it wasn’t seemless. Only 1 lift working so was quite a wait and only 5 people in there at one time. Room was nice, comfortable bed and pillows. I had a package that included a bottle of wine that wasn’t there. Just the little things make the difference, attention to detail. Breakfast was ok, again we stood in a line for about 10 minutes to wait to be seated without being told there’s a wait, or we’ll be with you soon. Again just that attention to detail.

While the hotel has a great central location close to CBD, local trams and underground, it is desperately in need of major freshening/updating. When we arrived, all lifts, including the service lift, were out of order. Old carpets and plaster peeling on upper hallways. No handicap/suitcase ramp at front entrance. Restaurant menu from the 1960’s. Must have been beautiful and grand in its heyday, but definitely getting by on faded glory now.
Have stayed at the hotel on 4 previous occasions and this time it was very disappointing to see that the rooms and common areas appeared neglected. A lot of noise at night from other rooms and the floorboards squeaked incessantly.
Excellent service, fantastic breakfast and the High Tea was a highlight. Centrally located short walks and access to shops and restaurants, cafes and bars as well as many attractions.
I highly recommend

Have stayed at The Hotel Windsor for over forty years - this visit was probably my last.
Condition of room (214) was OK - paint peeling in some areas and the safety chain on the door wasn't functioning as the fitting on the door frame was absent.
It took two attempts to get the safety chain fixed (my first request wasn't referrred to Building Maintenance), then around 4pm on Thursday 15 January when I was topless in my room my privacy was disturbed when a male member of staff barrelled into my room - DESPITE THE "DO NOT DISTURB" SIGN BEING ON. He entered with such force that the newly fixed safety chain was once again torn from its mounting on the doorframe.
The matter was immediately reported to the duty manager who investigated the matter (apparently the staff member was "new", "in a hurry" and "had meant to access Room 216" and offered me three complimentary breakfasts for having my nerves shredded by the unnecessary intrusion.
I have another stay booked at The Hotel Windsor for June this year (the visit was booked months ago), but I am now actively looking for alternate accommodation as, quite frankly, I no longer consider the hotel to be a safe venue.
Very disappointed to not have my Expedia VIP status not recognised at check in, and once informing the front desk staff and inquiring about our complimentary bottle of wine was treated with complete disdain. Never received the wine and the experience tainted the 3 day stay. Only booked the very dated hotel as it claimed to be part of Expedia’s VIP program.

Very underwhelming From the doorman, concierge to front desk unhelpful unknowlegable
The doorman was to busy talking to a friend while he had a coffee to even acknowledge our arrive., His attire was sloppy and unprofessional.
Front Dresk, arrived around 2, room would be ready till 3 was told there was no where to have a cup of tea or sit and just relax, had no idea where we get tea that was close to the hotel. At least 6 - 10 people after us rooms were available. When our room was finally available up we go waiting for our bags finally I had to ring and ask for them.
Breakfast for 2, black tea and toast, eggs Benedict and an orange juice, I'm still waiting for the orange juice. There was only about 8 tables occupied. 20 minutes to get our car on leaving, if we should have of been told it would take this long on check in and we could have rung ahead. This just a small summary. Silicone around the bath had mould spots.
Absolutely no way 5 star hotel or experience/ service. I had been a number of year ago and it was sad to experience how far The Windsor Hotel has fallen in condition and staff professionalism.
Over all experience poor definitely won't be back.
I stay at the Windsor whenever I visit Melbourne. The rooms are a bit dated, but I can only imagine how constrained they are with renovations given that it would (I assume) be a heritage-listed building. I do like the rooms because they are spacious. It's well maintained and always clean. The front desk and concierge staff are perfunctory, unlike previous visits where they were more welcoming and helpful. A pet peeve this trip is that they no longer provide complimentary bottles of water in the room. I still enjoyed my stay.
All good but the shower over the bath needs an anti slip mat in the tub. It's very slippery when soaped up.
Need more walk in showers. Stepping in over bath is dangerous
