"If you are looking for a traditional ryokan and a more remote area, this is the perfect place. Although it is about 45 mins from Kyoto train station, you will not be disappointed. Upon arrival, we were immediatelty greeted by the staff and welcomed with matcha tea while our bags were taken to our rooms. The rooms were very clean and beautifully decorated. Our room featured a private onsen overlooking the mountains. It was absolutely breathtaking. Both dinner and breakfast were amazing! We stayed one night and spent the next morning walking around the small town which was quite quaint and adorable. We would definitely stay here again!"

"I loved loved my room was perfect Had a great sleep. Amazing view. Staff were polite and great. Only issue was my son and his friend are cycleing on this trip. They brought their bikes inside to a designated location per staff but someone got in theire and stole some of their tools and lowered the seats etc Was to be a secure spot so that was disappointing. Reported the next morning. "

"The shuttle to pickup/drop off to and from Ogoto Onsen Station was great; otherwise, it would be a 10 minutes walk with luggage! Our tatami room was very traditional and offered a great view of the lake. Only downside is no blackout curtain so the room is nice and BRIGHT at 6 o'clock in the morning! The 10-course (I think) dinner was interesting and filling; it took us 2 1/2 hours to finish. One note though, the massage was not very pleasant but then again, the appointment was 10pm so I wasn't expecting a great masseuse at that time. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience."

"It was my first time visiting Kyoto and I picked this hotel due to its great reviews. The staff was so kind -always attentive and helpful regarding any needs that I had. I was always greeted the second I entered the lobby as well as around the hotel. I booked the garden view room -it was amazing. It had a large balcony that opened up into the Japanese garden that the hotel perfected! There was so much space -two bathrooms, a living room, a tatami mat area, and a double bed. I am a clean freak, and I don't think I've seen a cleaner hotel room in my life. They also offered great pajamas. I utilized the sauna Cypress room -it was essentially your own private spa. Make sure to book their saunas in advance as their reservations do fill up. Breakfast was included every day. The food was good (they had American options and Japanese options). The restaurant overlooked the Japanese garden. I could sit there forever. The only downside of the hotel is that it is a bit far from the downtown area. I utilized Uber and there was one night that I couldn't get a car for so long (I tried for hours) that I ended up missing my dinner reservation. There is a train close-by however you do have to trek uphill a bit to and from the train. I was also with my mother who couldn't do hilly walks so the train wasn't an option. The car ride to the downtown area was about 30 minutes with traffic. Sometimes more or less. I still think the hotel was worth it and would stay again despite the location. "
