Listed architect-designed house with private SWIMMING POOL VALLEY VIEW

"Overall a fabulous week in a gorgeous, uniquely-designed property. The architecture is very interesting, the views are just beautiful and we really felt like this was a place to escape. Location is great - only 5 minutes to the beautiful Beynac and 10 minutes to Sarlat. Lots of supermarkets and shops within 10 minute drive. Property is a lot larger than it looks in the pictures, which was a lovely surprise. It is worth bearing in mind that the house almost has two ‘wings’ and there is only air conditioning in the hallway of the sleeping ‘wing’. You therefore need to leave your bedroom doors open to get the benefit of the air conditioning. The ‘living’ part of the house does not have air conditioning and it gets very warm in the height of the summer. There is a lovely big garden with terraces and balconies - our two older children loved it. This house would not however be suitable for younger children without constant supervision, as any railings are designed with adults in mind and there are some terraced areas with no railings. Beatrice is a very warm, lovely welcoming host. Our only minor quibble is that the listing states “no hidden costs” and yet a day before we were due to arrive we were told ‘not to forget 120 for post-stay cleaning’. We feel that this should be built into the cost of the stay, or stated in the listing or, at the very least, communicated at the point of booking. We suggest updating the listing on Vrbo.Thank you Beatrice for a wonderful week. "

"What a fantastic stay in Beynac! The Petite Chateau was exactly as described in the listing. It was an ideal location for our stay in the Dordogne. It was very convenient for canoeing, seeing the castles and forts, and checking out Sarlat. It was the perfect size for our family of four with two teenage boys. The air-conditioner was perfect for keeping it a cool temperature in the house for the very hot days we had. Vincent, the owner, was so responsive in our booking process and the local property managers were also excellent. If we are so lucky to ever return to this region, we would absolutely stay there again and recommend it very highly."

"This is an amazing property; the view is simply magical! We spent every morning on the terrace for breakfast watching the canoeists on the Dordogne and enjoying the view of the chateaux. The pool was a godsend in the heat. Martine was extremely kind and helped us settle in. I scrubbed up on my GCSE French and we got by brilliantly. Beynac is a beautiful village, in an area full of beautiful villages and towns. A must do experience!"

Charming riverside stone built property in Perigord

"Staying at La Plume D'Oie in La Roque-Gageac was a very pleasurable experience. It is very special to be able to stay at this location in the beautiful village of La Roque-Gageac; from the front of this property you can look out over the river and from the back you can see the garden, majestic cliff and medieval fort above you. We were there during an intense heat wave and it was warm, but I would still return in a heartbeat. The property was ideal for our family as each bedroom was private and had its own bathroom. We could gather together in the sitting room on the street level (where it stayed cool on hot days) or the dining area to eat (next floor up), but could also have privacy to recharge in our rooms. The property was very clean and tidy. The beds were very comfortable, the sheets were high quality and though the beautiful little village can be busy with tourists during the day, the nights are super peaceful; we all slept exceedingly well every night of our weeklong stay. The kitchen was well equipped, and the washing machine was helpful to have; there was a drying rack to air dry our clothes on the back patio. Mark was an excellent host who was communicative and shared excellent and helpful recommendations for local boulangeries, restaurants and shopping."

"Lovely old house, with fabulous views across the valley from the terrace. There were swallows nesting under the eaves which added to the countryside charm. The house was clean and comfortable, with shutters to keep it cool during the day. The kitchen was great, very well equipped, everything we needed. The host lives nearby and was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and suggestions for activities. We loved the pool, shared with the other gîte next door. Our gîte had it's own parking space which was a bonus. Thank you Thibault "
