"I thought a shukubo would be a very simple minimalist accommodation but it was a luxurious stay. A pleasant surprise.
Great staff and service, beautiful gardens, wonderful shojin meals, relaxing bath after our long hike, and a morning service in the main hall.
It was a perfect experience"

Great experience. Location is great. Quiet and warm atmosphere. Dinner was well prepared. You have to sit down on tatami for dinner, but low chairs available. After meals, we were invited to the meditation. Morning service at 6:30 was a great way to start the day. Very nice atmosphere and it is run well. I do highly recommend.

Excellent onsen hotel right at the end of the first day of the Kohechi Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail. I came for the onsen and mountain seclusion, but they had such good maps of the Kohechi at the front desk that I decided to walk back to Koyasan the day I checked out. Itās about 20km through the mountains from Nosegawa Onsen to Koyasan, walking on a mix of well-kept trails and paved roads; overall, a moderately difficult hike with very good signage.
I highly recommend Kohechi hikers to stay at...

Beautiful hotel, the monks attending are really nice, definitely go to the morning ceremony, it is worth it. This is near everything and very centric to all the landmarks nearby. The "beds" are pretty hard since its traditional, but its manageable for a night or two. Meals were really good, definitely don't skip them and take the chance to eat traditional monk meals.

For an European, this was like visiting the ISS. Barefoot, tatami dinner, shared bath where i was alone, night curfew which felt like sleeping in a medieval fort, morning prayer and tatami breakfast again. Plus the abundance of history all around.

āāāāā A Truly Magical and Unforgettable Experience!
This was one of the highlights of our Japan adventure! Such a magical place, with a beautiful temple and an authentic Japanese atmosphere. Our room was very comfortable, with our own shower and toilet, and the food was absolutely outstanding!
The location is fantastic, within walking distance of some of the most beautiful temples. Everything was spotless and so well organised, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay special.

The monks were very friendly and helpful and everything was well coordinated so you knew what to expect. We really enjoyed our stay and wish to have been able to stay longer.

The experience of staying there was deeply meaningful. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to learn about Esoteric Buddhism from the monks there.

This is a unique experience to live in a Buddhist temple for one day. Across the street you can find the beautiful Koyasan cemetery. Pure magic.
The dinner and breakfast served was magnificent. We also enjoyed the spa at night.

Such a cute and comfortable stay in the center of Koyasan! The traditional tatami rooms with shoji screen doors were so lovely. Tucked just off the main street, the area was nice and quiet. The restaurant next door stayed open until 10pm and the conbini just a few steps further made it very convenient. The bus stop is right there and one of the helpful guides at the station gave me a map with the stayhouse and my bus stop marked. We very much enjoyed our stay!
