"Decent hotel for the money. Pictures are deceiving. Pool has limited chairs. Did not eat at the hotel at all because there was always a faint smell of vomit. Room was old and needs updating. The housekeeper opened the door to the deck daily which made the room extremely hot upon entering and you are unable to leave on the air conditioning when you leave the room. The smallest shower I’ve ever seen with no wash rags available."

"We stayed at the Syntopia Hotel for our summer holiday. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, they put in extra effort to get to know you and ensure you are having a lovely holiday. A few days into our holiday, they were automatically bringing our favourite drinks to our table at meal times which was very lovely! The food had such a good variety with a different focus every other night. We particularly enjoyed the Asian night. We would recommend staying at the Syntopia to everyone!"

"The most picturesque hotel! The grounds are beautiful. The pool area is really relaxing, perfect for a late afternoon dip after being out exploring or at the beach. The staff were all really lovely and helpful too. Breakfast is one the biggest perks. A huge range of options with some really delicious traditional options. We stayed in the Aquila suite which was situated right at the other end of the compound where there is only one other room. This was great for us as it was really private! The majority of the rooms are either near the pool area, or to the east of the restaurant. We also had dinner at the restaurant one of the nights and can confirm it was delicious and very fresh ingredients. The only ‘con’ I would say is it is quite remote. This hotel would be perfect for people who are either looking to stay at the hotel for the majority of the day, or don’t mind doing 1+ hour car trips. It’s 1.5 hours to Chania or Heraklion, 1 hour to the beaches in the south, and 2+ hours to Agios Nikolaos. We found being in the car so much had a negative impact on our holiday overall. However, highly recommend going to Rethymno old town! Roughly 30 mins from the hotel, and some great restaurants and shops. Overall it’s a beautiful hotel, and if you don’t mind the remoteness/driving quite a bit then we would highly recommend!"

"Everything about Harkia villas was as good as we hoped, from the excellent reception of the hosts through to the cleanliness and the facilities. The villas are in a quiet peaceful location, perfect for those wishing to escape the crowds in the resorts and a car is essential (some may find the road up a little challenging). For me, a perfect location to relax but also to explore the region as we wished."

"The villa was beautiful, it had everything we needed and was perfectly clean when we arrived. The service we received from Eva was exceptional - she was always willing to help with any questions we had, and every time Eva and the cleaning team had been in we found a new local delicacy in the fridge to try. The local area around the villa was brilliant, with lots of traditional tavernas, and lots of historic sites to visit. Overall, we couldn’t have had a better holiday, and will definitely be returning to this villa in the future."

Auch der Pool war makellos und hat unseren Urlaub zu etwas ganz Besonderem gemacht.Ein absolutes Highlight war die wundervolle Überraschung bei unserer Ankunft: Es standen bereits leckeres Essen, Snacks und Wein für uns bereit. "We stayed as a big family group of 19, split across the two villas, and it worked out perfectly — plenty of space for everyone to spread out while still feeling together. The photos online really don’t do the property justice; it was even lovelier in person. Every room had AC, which made a huge difference in the heat. A definite highlight was booking a private chef for one night — such a special touch and a meal we’re still talking about. Highly recommend for any large family gathering."

"Words can’t fully describe the incredible hospitality we experienced at this gorgeous villa nestled in a charming village. From the moment we arrived, Vasilias made us feel like family. He graciously accommodated an early check-in and even brought us lunch after our travels.The villa itself is stunning. Beautifully restored from its original construction in the late 1880s, it perfectly blends historic character with modern comfort. There were 10 adults in our group, and everyone had plenty of space to relax and enjoy the property.What made our stay truly special was the sense of community. During our visit, we had the privilege of witnessing a traditional village wedding. The entire village paraded right in front of the villa on their way to the centuries-old church, which is still used for local celebrations today. It was an unforgettable glimpse into local life.We also spent an evening at the nearby tavern owned by Vasilias’ neighbor. The kindness of the villagers was remarkable—his wife even brought us fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, and olives during our stay.Vasilias also invited us to his restaurant in downtown Rethymno, where we enjoyed a magical dinner. His generosity extended beyond our stay as well. After I accidentally left my jacket behind, he promptly shipped it to my next destination.This was truly a special experience, and we would return in a heartbeat. If I could give a 10 out of 10 stars, I absolutely would. Thank you, Vasilias from all of us!!!"
