"The room overall was clean but the bathroom had a stained toilet and rust marks on the bath. I would think when the room had been refurbished in the 1990’s it had been done to a very high standard. The views from the room were spectacular The reception staff were helpful, friendly and informative. The breakfast was very underwhelming, with very little fresh fruit. I was concerned that the milk, butter and yogurt, tinned fruit etc. although had been standing in the sun and was warm was covered and placed back in the fridge at the end of service, I would assume ready to be topped up the following day. I think with very little extra expense the continental breakfast could be improved with some form of chiller to keep dairy products cool, more fresh fruit and bread choices. The hotel building along with its history was fascinating although the furnishings definitely needed upgrading to be more in keeping with the history of the house. Again with a little more imagination the public rooms could be made more welcoming and encourage people to use them and spend more money in the bar. Overall I would say improvements are being made to upgrade rooms along with general repairs but an awful lot needs to be done to bring the hotel up to standard. It could be a fantastic place to stay even with just a few simple improvements, it just feels very tired. "

"Great hotel for my one night stay. Hotel had everything you could want and breakfast was amazing. Only things that would have got a better rating was having someone there when I arrived.i waited a while at check in and I had a ground floor room with a table right outside my window that smokers were using."

"The pool area is tiny, sauna and steam room not working. Single room the smallest I’ve ever stayed in and the worst nights sleep. Overall I would not recommend, definitely NOT a 4 star!"

"I didn't actually stay east cliff as it was shut but I was not informed of this. A note was posted on the door that told me to go to the hotel next door. The man who checked me in seemed very overwhelmed and very little information about anything. My room was incredibly hot throughout my stay. I fed back about this numerous times but nobody cared. I couldn't sleep because it was so hot and was unable to turn the radiators down. I was advised to open the window but was on the ground floor and even though there were cables they could have been easiy cut and as a woman travelling alone I didn't want to do this. Lots of police and people hanging around near the hotel so didn't feel super staff. Really didn't enjoy this stay. It was pretty awful all round. Room very tired, spelt moldy. "

"Lovely hotel, bit dated in areas but that wasn't a problem to us. No complaints about our room. All the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our evening meals at the hotel, breakfast could be improved slightly. Great location also an added bonus was the car park underneath the hotel."
