Grand Wailea Maui, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

"The grounds are stunning, the valet staff were amazing! The rooms are about average, the staff working the resort pool and beach were hit or miss. Cleaning staff was kind and thorough as were the staff at the desk at check in. The $55 resort charge, additional taxes and fees added up quickly. The charges for the resort were confusing and even when we attempted to utilize there were additional fees for almost everything offered so it felt confusing and misleading. No microwaves in the rooms either which would have been helpful to heat up leftovers and quick meals in between all the eating out. Would like to visit again but most likely will choose a different place to stay."

"We were unsure about Yonegan when we saw homeless people sitting in front of the bldg, but we hoped inside would be better. We had to call a number to get the code to the locked door to the stairs. There were no lights in the stairs or hall, so we had to use our phone flashlights to unlock room F. Room not acceptable, mold/mildew under mattress (we always look for bedbugs). The person said they would get a different mattress and my thought was if you had a better mattress shouldn't it have been in the room already? Second room H they let us see had an odor of maybe stale cigarettes, urine(?) and missing a dresser drawer. We said not acceptable. The person on the phone with said we would get a full refund. Later they backtracked and just offered us our cleaning fee back. We then called Hotels.com and explained the situation and sent pictures of the mold/mildow and the whatever it was on the staircase wall we discovered using our phone flashlights to get down the steps safely. Pictures attached. Robert told Hotel.com that they clean their rooms, ok I'll take his word on that. But there was nothing that we saw that indicated that it had been properly maintened or inspected. Hotels.com did give us our full refund, thank you. Nothing less would have been truly acceptable. Yonegan website shows a rating of 8.2. Not in this universe. Google reviews gives it 2.1, and that rating seems too high. Unfortunately we didn't know about the 2.1 rating until after all this situation."

"This is an excellent location from which to explore Maui. We would take the quick walk to the beach in the morning, explore the island in the afternoon and walk or drive to Kihei or Wailea for dinner. Pros: location, size of unit, kitchenette, free and ample parking, laundry, housekeeping, availability of host, clean pool, family atmosphere. As things get updated, it will be even better. We will be staying here again."

"Excellent! We loved our stay at the hotel. Two ocean beaches are a short walk away, plentiful food options, an outdoor pool + jacuzzi with (surprisingly!) always available pool chairs and gazebos. The staff was friendly and helpful, the pool bar had drinks and food + evening performances and music. Our room was absolutely new and immaculate. The only thing that didn't work as expected: we were unable to project our devices to the room's TV, as screen mirroring only worked with YouTube, but not with other streaming services or apps (and the HDMI ports to connect to were also inaccessible, as is very common with hotel TVs)"

Wailea Beach Resort - Marriott, Maui

"This is a 4.5-star property. (Not as high end as Four Seasons, Fairmont, Ritz & the like but close.) First, the staff. Everyone - front desk, concierge, banker, housekeeping, pool, etc., are friendly, attentive, helpful and professional. They learn your name and no one ever says “no” or “you need to go talk to xyz,” but rather finds a way to help. I particularly enjoyed the QR code system for letting valet know when you need your car. Very easy and effective. Second, the rooms. We opted for an ocean view although not the highest end & had a beautiful view of Ulua beach & the ocean. Pretty roomy with a balcony, mini fridge, nice bathroom and robes, (Again, not Ritz level but very nice.) There are many types of rooms to suit all tastes. Third, the facilities. Great beaches on property & nearby. A gym and game room with free digital and old school games like skeeball and table shuffleboard. Very fun. There’s a Roy Yamaguchi pizza truck and restaurant, and other restaurants including poolside restaurant/bars with ocean views of course. The food was very good. For us, the two standouts were the pools - several options including an adults only infinity edge pool (as well as an adventure pool with a water park style slide for the kids and young at heart); and the movie theater with bean bag seating. They were showing the Avenger series when we were there, at 4&7pm, and we went three nights in a row. Brought dinner with us. Really fun. All in all, highly recommended."
