"Really friendly and nice staff. Hotel is clean. Food is good. Had a comfortable bed (was a firm mattress). Great Wi-Fi connection. Room was spacious (had a triple bedroom) bathroom had a bath and separate shower cubicle. Some areas could do with an update, e.g the carpets. Reasonable priced rooms."

"A modest hostelry with limited facilities but the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Some nice touches - plenty of coffee, tea, milk, plus biscuits and bottled water. Good value breakfast. Right by bus stop and close to supermarket."

"The Ship & Castle have a very welcoming team who looked after us very well. It’s right opposite the quayside, with temporary parking opposite the entrance Laos for unloading your luggage and then just a few minutes walk from the main car park. Lovely restaurant & bar views over the waterside! Our room had a spacious fitted bathroom and it was very well decorated and clean. The room itself a twin was a little snug, but had all we required. We would have preferred a better view as we were...

"A traditional upmarket British seaside hotel which has clearly seen better days in its past, but appears to be attempting to get them back. Property shows signs of being tired in places, bedrooms are 3 star in particular, but the staff were exceptional and clearly well trained. An excellent venue from which to enjoy the town's Shanty Festival."

"Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent food. However my main concern was the lack of air conditioning on the top floor. Unfortunately it seems to be the lot of the solo traveller that you get stuck on the top floor ( I have had this in other hotels) where it is usually hot and stuffy. Too much noise on the road outside ( boy racers and revellers) to keep the windows open. Shame because otherwise I liked the hotel."

"Fantastic hotel "

"It was comfortable, clean and the staff were friendly. In sn excellent spot 5 mins walk from the beach. Only downside was when we were there they had a party of school aged children staying so the dining room was not open to us oand guests like us which meant having to search for somewhere to have breakfast or eat in our room. A mini fridge in the rooms wouldve been a great addition"
