"When i stayed the pool was being cleaned which they do once a month which was useful to know. The room i had was overlooking the pool which i found very relaxing The bar area is lovely and cozy the restaurant is very well set out and bright with lots of windows to let in the natural light during the day."

"We are both 60 and was given third floor and the lift wasn’t working, there was no one around to ask if there was a lower floor available, overall the location was excellent the room was clean and comfortable we would stay again"

"The staff were genuinely pleasant, welcoming. The room itself was, clean, and comfortable… although sadly we seem to have been given what can only be described as “the broom cupboard suite.” I half expected Gordon the Gopher and Philip Schofield to pop out from behind the kettle and ask if there was room for one more. To say it was cosy would be generous — opening the suitcase basically became the room’s main event. That said, the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel really did make up for the lack of space. A very enjoyable stay overall — just pack light unless you fancy sleeping standing up like Gordon in the cupboard!"

"Myself and hubby just returned from a 1 night stay here.I really dont know where some negative reviews come from.We had a great time staying here.Check-in was fast,we got a quiet room as we requested,All staff were very friendly.The room pictures do not do it justice,we were expecting a very small room,but our room was spacious with everything you need,eg shower gel and shampoo,hair drier and iron and ironing board.With what we paid including breakfast.I really dont know what some people want from £45 pounds per person a night..We really enjoyed it and would stay again if travelling to Derby.."

Buxton Crescent

"This was our fourth stay at the Crescent, our first under Champneys’ ownership. As locals we are invested in the building, having followed its restoration over the years, not least with considerable financial help from the county and borough councils. We booked our stay some weeks ago through Expedia - I selected a room we had used before and paid full price. I didn’t delve for the ‘important information’ which is further down the screen. Therefore, we were astonished on arrival to find we would have to pay an additional £40 per person per night just to swim in the hotel pool. This was ‘Champneys policy and part of the spa package’ - I never asked what this included though I suspect not much judging by the individual cost of each of the different spa treatments available. I have never been charged to swim in a hotel pool before, nor had the friends staying with us who are world travellers. The manager reduced the cost to £20 each after I complained. The room was comfortable but the breakfast disappointing - flabby slices of bread for the toaster - no fresh loaves - and our friend’s poached egg was cold. To add insult to injury, our room was advertised that day at £50 less than we paid in advance. Sadly, we won’t be returning which is a shame as it was previously our go-to local choice for special occasions."
