Old Hall Hotel

"The building is absolutely beautiful and old. Located right in the middle, near the crescent and the pavillion gardens. The room was lovely. There were some areas which let it down. With dust on some carpet edges and dust on top of the curtains. Which are understandable given how tall the windows were. But these are more due to the fact it's an old building. The room was hot and I wasn't able to open the windows properly, but not too bad. Was worse when trying to get ready. Bed was super comfy. Breakfast was really nice. All staff were helpful and friendly. I would recommend and stay here again if I needed to stay over. Parking was outside, if you managed to get a space and you could get a pass for £6 for 24 hours. Overall I thought it was lovely."

"I have stayed at this hotel over 5 times under 2 different owners. The spa is always impressive however Champneys now charge extra for residents’ access per day. This results in a stampede at 3pm for guests wanting to (rightly) get their money’s worth. It really detracts from the ability to relax. The spa bar area could do with a little TLC: walls marked; carpets covered in crumbs; cobwebs on the ceiling alcoves; plastic champagne flutes!!! The bed was comfortable and the bedroom spacious. They no longer provide Buxton water however :( Breakfast was ok. The buffet section has been reduced and we couldn’t see any pastries. The cooked part was ok. Poached eggs were completely cooked through but not hot. The staff were great and the breakfast team in particular seemed more professional than previous visits. They were kind and courteous and efficient. My complaints are small but added together give an impression of tightness on the part of the hotel. Lastly, it’s the only hotel I have ever been to where the room is never ready early!"

"We had a lovely break here and overall found the accommodation very comfortable, with some real highlights. The hot tub was amazing and the outside space was particularly lovely — a great place to relax and enjoy some time away. Parking was also excellent, and having a bus stop directly outside was very convenient, although the service was only hourly, so it’s worth bearing that in mind if you’re planning to use public transport. There were, however, a few small things that we felt were missing., we were surprised that there was no cling film or kitchen foil, both of which would have been useful in a self-catering property. A full-length mirror and some tissues would also have been welcome. These are relatively inexpensive, basic items, but at this price point we felt they should really have been provided. There were also four lovely-looking biscuits left for us, which was a thoughtful touch. However, my daughter has severe food allergies and there was no allergy information provided with them, so unfortunately she couldn’t risk eating them. It would be helpful if ingredients/allergen information could be provided with any food items left for guests. That said, the accommodation itself was comfortable, the hot tub and outdoor space were fantastic, and we enjoyed our stay. With a few small additions and touches, we feel it could be an even better experience and would feel more in keeping with the price."

"Large property in a delightful village. Excellent location for walking Chrome Hill and surrounding area. Great communication with owner who promptly fixed the missing forks issue! No immediate parking, but you can park opposite and see your car from the window. Local pubs were good and we went to Alton Towers for the day too (30 mins) and Luds Church is worth the walk too. We ould recommend property for families (5 single beds, which was unusual and handy!) but perhaps not super ideal if you have dogs too (we left ours at home on this occasion) as small front garden only with a low wall and a yard and the owners have requested that dogs go toilet somewhere else, which is fair enough but could be a pain in the middle of the night! Just as heads up! All in all a lovely property in a lovely village thank you!"
