Secluded, spacious new geodesic home on the Big Island, Hawaii.

"This dwelling is unique, but there's much room for improvement. It is described as "new" (not), and secluded (understatement). We arrived in the DARK after driving a paved, but rough 2 miles from the main road, and were shocked to find an unlit driveway with an industrial-style chain linked fence with warnings posted all over it. We almost left right then, but gave the lock combo a try. The gravel/mud driveway was very rutted and our rented minivan struggled to make it up (in both directions) multiple times. We found out that the home is NOT air conditioned. Although we loved the nature sounds outside at night, the humidity was hard to bear, and there were multiple windows that couldn't be opened. It rained the entire time, which prevented us from using the outdoor spaces at all. The master suite in the upstairs loft was very spacious, but the other bedrooms were small, and our bed was extremely worn and squeaky. The old furniture gave off a musty smell, and the lack of adequate fresh air made my husband's allergies/asthma worse. There is no kitchen table (only a long, high table with 4 stools pushed up against 2 windows which do not open). We were told to "help ourselves" to everything in the fridge, freezer & pantry, but there was an odd amount of assorted leftovers and frozen food inside. It was as if someone had just left, and nothing had been cleaned for us. The fridge handle was crusty and the trashcan on the deck was full (and stunk)! Some bed pillows had no cases!"

Nice little cottage oasis on a tropical fruit orchard consisting of many fruits.

"Property was beautiful and well maintained. Pictures due no justice to the beautiful cottage. The room was clean and the outdoor shower was so refreshing after long hot days. Downtown Hilo is about 25 minutes from cottage. Richard (host) was very responsive and kind. Overall we enjoyed our stay 10/10."

"The guest cottage is lovely. I really like how the hosts furnished and decorated the inside, and the outdoor space is beautiful and relaxing. We left the windows open and fell asleep to the frogs chirping, then enjoyed watching a diversity of birds in the yard in the morning. Everything about this Vrbo is great including proximity to volcano national park."

"The Bird House was comfortable and felt like coming home. The fresh breeze kept the house cool without an A/C so you have to leave the windows open all the time. The birds can be a bit noisy in the morning and wake you up a bit early if you’re light sleepers like us, but earplugs are provided ( I saw some under the bathroom sink). We brought our own earplugs. The location was perfect for us visiting Volcano and Hilo. The beds were comfortable although the sofa cushions in the living room are a bit worn and troubled my sciatica. The bathrooms were updated and spacious but the second one was inconvenient at times being on the ground floor. Overall the place was great and clean and we would definitely recommend it to people."

"Very clean property and well stocked. We did not end up doing any cooking but even though there is no oven / stove, there are plenty kitchen gadgets for doing cooking if needed. We stayed as a home base while visiting Volcano National Park and it was a quick 20ish minute drive to the park entrance. Very nice wrap around Lanai. Feels very remote enjoyed hearing all the wildlife!"

"We loved renting this “jungle house” for the weekend! It was the perfect location in between Hilo, Mauna Kea, Akaka falls, and Kīlauea. The property was very well labeled and documented so figuring out the operations of the house was a breeze. The host was super responsive and the best ever! The fresh fruit trees, avacado tree, tree frog sounds all added to the lore of this home. Highly highly recommend! We stayed with our kids for a long weekend and caught Kīlauea episode #49! Thanks for having us!!"
