"Lovely staff, easy parking, fascinating building. Could do with a tidy up and lick of paint. Not a bad breakfast (Weatherspoons style). Also not sure why the security lights were on all night outside my window. If these are required, appropriate blackout curtains should be installed. Very poor check in procedure. Very complicated online checkin. Need to submit passport, payment and two factor security. This is after you’ve prepaid. Shows a lack of trust and understanding of their guests."

"I’d booked an Executive room. Arrived at hotel, no receptionist so rang a mobile number as stated on desk. We were allocated an 'upgrade' so went to floor 1 room 9. After having to barge the door to get in it was absolutely horrendous. Wee in the toilet, horrendous fan noise in bathroom, no curtains, bent brackets where curtain poles were and this was a suite! The wardrobe wouldn't shut and the windows were grim. Rung the guy back as me and wife weren’t happy so they moved us to 'the best room in the hotel' number 22 and can’t believe that this is what £150 gets you in this hotel. Corridor stinks of cigarettes. The floor tiles were all cracked and lose under foot so we left a towel down over it. Wallpaper was ripped in places, curtains half hanging up! By this time we had no option but to accept as we have plans and too late to go else where. Thankfully the bedding was clean but this hotel shouldn’t even be advertised."

"We had a great stay at Abbeyfield Guesthouse. Check‑in was smooth, communication was excellent, and the property was very clean. The location felt safe and convenient, and we were always able to find plenty of free street parking in the evenings. The only small suggestion would be to add a mirror in the bathroom — it would make the space even more comfortable. Overall, highly recommended."

"This is a cool, slightly funky/charming British hotel. Lovely decor, not a cookie-cutter hotel. The staff are absolutely excellent. Exterior doors are a bit funny, with various little signs taped up about how to get in and out, and the layout of my room was unique - clearly a re-purposed space. But the bed and bathroom were fantastic. I’d recommend the Mountford for those who want a little taste of proper England for their visit (note: actual British people were staying there, always a good sign!)"

"I was not aware of the aIcohoI free ruIe in the property untiI I read the house ruIes after booking, which meant I couId not enjoy a gIass of wine with my food. I was aIso disappointed with no kettIe in the room, which I thought was a bare minimum for pIaces these days. The shared fridge was aIso pretty fuII and I don't enjoy having to keep the food we brought in the car....I'd have a thought a smaII fridge in each room wouIdn't have put them out too much. That apart, it is a Pieasant enough buiIding. Not vaIue for me though. I wouId use it again, but I wouId not pay anything near the asking price unIess it was upgraded with a fridge and kettIe."
