Hotel The Celestine Kyoto Gion

Hotel The Celestine Kyoto Gion

10/10 Excellent
"On a hot August day, I made the misguided decision to take the 15-20min walk from Shijo-Gion station instead of a cab. Although walkable, my daughter & I arrived, with me clearly showing I was on the losing side of a battle with local humidity. But no matter - the staff kindly ushered us in, served us tea & handled check-in while we sat & rested in the entry lobby. This level of attentive care followed through our entire stay - whether we ordered room service, were in need of a taxi or shuttle to Kyoto Station, etc., the staff was abundantly helpful without being intrusive. The room itself was lovely - comfortable & refined with an incredible traditional Japanese bath, which I used nightly. The Superior twin bed room was great, but we would have preferred to have the beds separated by a nightstand or walking space. Overall, this hotel provided a peaceful respite from long, busy days of sightseeing in the summer heat. I did not partake in the onsite onsen, but it sounded lovely - perhaps next time. We did order room service one night - although tasty & convenient, there are other options across the city that would be just as good, if not better, but it was perfect for our needs after a long day. The hotel itself is situated in Gion, which offers quieter evenings and proximity to temples and "old Kyoto" - if I were to return with my adult children, I would likely book something in the more lively modern side of the river, however I would definitely return here with my husband."

"Hotel room was bigger than the average, bathroom is modern and clean. The location is perfect right at the entrance of their big indoor shopping area that connect to the main tourist food street. One thing is there’s only 4 washer and 4 dryers. The washers are fast but the dryers are slow so people end up waiting in line like crazy around 9pm til midnight so do your laundry early when it’s empty"

"The room was a good size for Japan. We really liked the washroom set up..the fact that the toilet was in a separate room and there was a Japanese style washing area. It was great to have a sliding door to separate the two spaces. Storage was ample. The location was great for shopping and the hotel was quiet. We liked the lounge area in the other part with free coffee and soft drinks. The washing machines were greatly appreciated. Although they had check in machines there was always staff at the front desk to help with inquiries. Would definitely stay here again. Good value!! I’m"
