Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour

Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour

8/10 Good
"Check in was fast and smooth and guy ws very friendly and when asked about the brekky told me it is cheaper to book with him than pay at the resto in the morning, we saved $15 for the 3 of us. However nice the beds are, the issue was that one of the glasses I used to drink was not washed well and I had a seafood allergy. I thought after taking a sip of water that I smelled something fishy. I asked my friend to smell the rim and true enough, she said it smelled like "mackerel". That night, I had a very bad reaction, couldn't sleep as I was so itchy and my friends said around 2:30 am, my face as all red with rashes! I was itchy all over and had a very bad time. I hardly slept, desptie taking antihistamines, it was a terrible feeling, I had to take another one to help me breathe well! My feet were so red, thighs and eyes so itchy too! My friend thought they needed to take me to a hospital, that was very scary indeed. I must have slept one hour, they said, I was so exhausted but I soldiered on as we had a cruise to do! I will probably stay there again but I will smell the glasses and mugs first. Buffet brekky was ok, but the blueberry danish was so tough for me, tasted old. I ws jsut back from Paris last May and the croissants and pasteries were not so nice at the buffet unfortunately. The juices were good and there a a great vrety to choose but I as still not feeling so well that morning, so was so careful of every item there."

"The staff were very approachable, help full and respectful. We did have problems with the window blinds as they were already broken so the ratchet was hard to either wind up or down. Breakfast was great value and also a great selection. The concierge and door staff were also great in looking after our luggage on early arrival and departure and arranged the taxi to the airport."

Hilton Sydney

Hilton Sydney

10/10 Excellent
"This stay was in their Ambassador Suite. It was on the 41st floor, so near the top, but even from there one can barely glimpse the harbor through all the new construction in Sydney CBD. Still, it was a nice room that included executuve lounge access as well as breakfast at the Glass restaurant. The Executive Lounge used to be located on an upper floor, but they've relocated it to an enclosed area (no windows) on the 1st floor. Usable, but the space is smaller, the food offerings are less than before, and there is no view so the aesthetics were not as nice. But at least it's open 7 days a week with decent hours. I do recommend the Glass restaurant for breakfast any day, if you have that option. The room itself was divided into 3 parts, a bedroom, a combined dining/living room area, and a connecting large bathroom and walk-in wardrobe area. I picked this larger room because I had my daughter and her 3 children with us on this trip. My wife and I chose a "City Suite" for ourselves that was more suited to our needs. Their standard rooms are nice, but relatively small. Service was excellent throughout out stay. The main reason we picked the Sydney Hilton was because of it's location next to the QVB as well as the convenience of having light rail (street car) and rail access nearby. You can actually catch a train from the International (or domestic) airport and end up at the station next to this Hilton (Town Hall) without changing trains. But this hotel is very nice as well."
