"Staying at this hotel was an incredible and unique experience! The way the old prison has been transformed into a modern hotel is absolutely brilliant. The historic atmosphere is preserved perfectly, and the clean rooms are very comfortable. The staff is clearly understaffed and overwhelmed with duties, but they work incredibly hard and do their absolute best to keep the atmosphere and everything else perfect. "Very clean room on the ground floor. We kept our bikes on the patio. The staff was very helpful with restaurants for dinner. Excellent breakfast."

"This is a great location for Bergen and the low-priced self parking is a huge benefit in an area with little parking options. The staff is also especially friendly. The room is clean and adequate but can be noisy and stuffy on warmer days. A small fan is provided but you likely need to have the window open which can add to the noise and temperature regulation issue through the night. There were some minor maintenance issues in the bathroom (slow drain in shower, toilet lever needed some adjustments intermittently or it would stop working, and the hand soap dispenser was not functioning.). A mini fridge would be a nice addition to the room (it looks like it probably had one in the past). The internet was quite good and reliable and the work desk very appreciated. It could use some updates to the outlets at either the bed or desk to accommodate USB demands. The bed, pillows, sheets, and towels were extremely clean but also very minimal in size and quality. All serviceable but not quite comfortable or exceptional in anyway. The mattress was very clean but is also a foam style mattress, which may give some trouble as it runs a little warm and is not as supportive as traditional ones. The breakfast is basic but reliable and plentiful each day should you choose to use it. The property is walking distance from almost everything in central Bergen, but because of the factors above is likely best for a shorter stay vs anything beyond 3 nights."

"A lovely hotel. The room was excellent and the on-site restaurant (not owned by the hotel) was equally excellent. I would have given it 5 stars but for the fact it was difficult to find anywhere to hand up our clothes after a very wet journey, there wasn't a grab handle in the shower (which I need) and as the hotel is encased in a large church and there was no external branding, we couldn't find it though it was right under our noses!"
