"Clean, modern room. Pam was great checking me in and even called later to make sure everything was ok. The breakfast was great: scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and make your own waffle. Complimentary snacks at the office."

"We had an excellent stay. Interesting and comfortable room. Great bed. The continental breakfast was super and better than the chain hotels that offer the same. Staff were cordial and helpfu. We were visiting Mesa Verde National Park and spent 2 nights at the Retro, then 2 nights in the park. The Retro was far better than the property in the park."

"This place is terrific! Lanea has lots of little touches around the house that personalize this older home and make it very special. We particularly loved the book she put out that mentioned the art in her home and it is clear that this home is very loved. We loved it! Very convenient for getting to Mesa Verde, and into town. Kitchen was well stocked (the coffee was delicious!) and met our needs very well."

"I loved my stay from start to finish!What a delightful, friendly and attentive host. She loves the land, the culture, history and spirit of the Cortez-Mesa Verde area. The property grounds are spiritual, warm and whimsical. Such a unique environment and I loved all of it. I stayed in the studio apartment below the main residence. It’s clean and spacious! Perfect for a single, couple, or small family. Parking was available right in the lower driveway, directly in front of the apartment. An a/c was available, but I didn’t need it in September as a ceiling fan did just fine. If you thrive on natural light, you might consider other onsite units as the Bears Den relies mostly on electrical lighting. It’s a long room and the two windows near the front are pretty small, one housing the a/c. I enjoyed my stay and loved chatting with the precious host! Highly recommended! Thank you!"

"Lovely, spacious home! Off of the beaten path in the quiet solitude of the Canyon of the Ancients. We used it as a center station for riding to Durango, Mesa Verde, Telluride, and the 4 corners. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen large enough for any group. We had a large truck and trailer pulling 2 motorcycles and there was plenty of space for parking all of it.There’s a private back entrance into the canyon that goes right on to a trail. Wish I had more time to hike but it was a little too warm even into the evenings.Bruce was a great host and on top of communication. We had no issues while there but he checked in on us to make sure we were enjoying our stay.Would definitely choose again if we come back to the area!"

"Everything was as expected; my only comment is - believe it or not: the soap! The soap dispenser on the MB bathroom sink did not work; the soap bottle in the shower was not very inviting to say the least. It had been in use for a long time, there was not much left in it and I could not bring myself to use it ..."
