"A bit far away from the train station but very close to the night market
Very convenient check in procedure, but recommend checking in earlier that day as passport info needs to be verified.
I contacted the staff via Facebook and whatsapp who responded quickly.
View was also spectacular, facing entirely the ocean. "

"They gave me the wrong door code for my room; if I hadn't met someone from the same room, I could have been stranded.
The lockers don't work. If you turned the actual face of the code part, it would open the door; you didn't need a code.
No night lights for navigation, so the room light was on all night.
No towels clearly made available - had to grab one from the front desk. No clear place to return them or the slippers. Had to ask someone where to find the slippers in the first place.

"The worst is the noise. I stayed in a room with a window. But there was an electric wire, so the window didn't close. And the noise outside sounded the same. It was really loud. And on the bed, ants crawled around. There was a bad smell in the bathroom"

"Really close to train station and bus to Taroko, dorm is nice, there is a personal closet for big backpack, a locker above the bed and some space to put our stuff.
Breakfast is simple, toast and fat add-on: chocolate paste, peanut butter and sweet margarine, but sadly no jam. There is tea but no coffee.
The staff is nice, common space is huge, good place to stay."

"We stayed in a private room with private bathroom, which I believe they have plenty despite the name "hostel."
The place is really well organised with clean shared kitchen and living room downstairs. The bedroom is very clean and the shower room has a separate door for toilet.
We checked in after the normal check-in time and received the check-in information in details making it super smooth when we arrived in late evening.
Guests that we met were polite, clean, and quiet, making it very...

Encounter Hostel
Encounter HostelHualien City
10/10 Excellent
Encounter Hostel was GREAT!! I would definitely stay again! The place was about a 7 min taxi ride and it was clean, big, and airy. Four people stayed and we had nothing but praise for this place. The owner, Mr. Wang and his employees went out of their way to accommodate us. He even helped us with our other problems at our different hotels, staying on the phone with us (we speak very little chinese) and even bargaining prices for us! You don't get that just anywhere!
