"The staff was wonderful. There was a huge blizzard and the city lost power…. They staff was super helpful and kind. My car got stuck in the snow and the staff helped me to be calm about the whole thing. They were wonderful! Regarding the room, the food, etc, the hotel was very nice as I expected. Karl"

"I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies...

"We were greeted at the door by our host. The appearance of the outside held dear the secret of the interior. The opulence and style. Every detail of our extremely clean room was taken into consideration. There were complimentary snacks and drinks of all kinds. Most places just give you sample soaps but beyond that they had q-tips, eye drops, ect... Every possible need was looked out for. The bed was great and the pillows even better and in abundance. These are the hosts with the most."

"The property was easy to access and close to downtown. It fit our family of four comfortably. Very clean and well maintained. We would definitely consider renting again if we choose to return to the area! "
