"It was a very windy day which exposed the lack of insulation and how the cold air got in.
The room was freezing, the heating cam on but for too short a time the room was already freezing and did not warm up. I had an air fan and an oil radiator on but the amount of cold air getting in did not mean the room could ever get cosy.
Which is a shame as the views were lovely and the bed was comfortable.
The shower was not very good it kept spitting very hot water that was too hot and temperature...
"My second visit to Y Pengwern. For me it's ideal for my hikes.
Very quite, a lovely local pub with friendly people and good food. Made to feel welcome. No fuss or bells or whistles. Just what I like."
"It was too noisy: the wind howling off the sea and it sounded like a water tank filling for about 5 seconds every minute. It was also too bright and I couldn’t find a switch to turn off the hall light. Also, the TV remote control didn’t work."
"I absolutely loved this hotel. The only thing was having to walk from their car park to the hotel which wasn’t very well signed but in all fairness was I could have read about this before checking in.
Staff were amazing and so very friendly. They were happy to help and offer advice throughout the stay.
Dinner and breakfast was lovely. Cocktails great and overall a beautiful stay - if I could have stayed an extra night I would have done.

"The room [room 10, double en suite] was nothing like the pictures. First you had to lean on the door to get in cos it's too big for the frame. Then once you are in it smelled like a teenage boys room, sweat and lynx. The carpet was badly worn and peeling off the floor, the cheap divan base was broken so the mattress was either springy or wavy, didn't dare actually look at the mattress... Cobwebs around the window show how long since that was cleaned and general bits of wallpaper coming off the...
"Overall it was fine but I very expensive for what we actually got. The room was fine but small and the bed was not the best apart from that it was fine. I paid £140 for the night and breakfast which was continental was another £25 for the two of us. Very expensive for a room above a pub."
"Very friendly staff. Had some issues communicating with the hotel via email and Expedia messages, but were able to quickly resolve issues by phone and in person. Beautiful old hotel with modern features in the heart of Aberdovey."
"I travelled with my 2 year old daughter.
The bedding was absolutely filthy. Hairs, stains of unknown bodily fluids, some looked very much like blood. I’m not entirely sure they had actually been changed after the last occupants of the room left as it didn’t smell great. The bedding was changed after I asked. The rooms are In serious need of renovation. Very outdated, damaged, worn, unpleasant to be in and had a musty old smell to them. Carpet damage in places. Bedside lamp had old blood on....
"Our room was clean but very basic and small. The bathroom has been recently updated and everything works great, including plenty of hot water.
The parking is especially spacious for Wales!
Restaurant food is typical pub food, tasty, generous portions and served piping hot.
Friendly staff.
Nothing fancy here, but good value for the money."
