Loved the location! Very cute cottage. Some updating needed but overall had everything we needed. Glad we read the previous reviews and it was noted coffee maker was drip and not Keurig. It was very cold in the area, so downstairs was cooler than we are use to and only had fireplace to heat. Will consider using this again.

Great weekend get away
We had a great weekend vacation at the Potato house. It was very clean and ready for us when we arrived. The wifi was a little quirky but it did work. The heated bathroom floors was a nice feature, the ladies really loved that.
All in all it was a quiet restful weekend and we enjoyed the stay there, would definitely stay at the Potato House again.

restful fall retreat
The Potato house is a charming but modern cabin with beautiful wood decor and decorative lighting The views are beautiful. The property manager was helpful and prompt with small issue of batteries for remote. The neighborhood is very quiet. It was a very restful stay.
So happy with this choice (I had saved about 14 options), it was just delightful for two people. Quiet, comfortable, nice deck with a lovely view. Our first day was rainy and we were still treated to sitting on the covered deck. Some time we’ll be back and walk the trails. I was sad to leave.
It was an absolute pleasure to stay at the Potatoe House. Went to see snow and relax and it did not disappoint. The house was perfectly set up for check-in, had everything you need for a stay. But the views were worth more than anything I can say. Thank you again.

We absolutely love the house, the location, the views, and the hot tub. The appliances could use a little upgrade—the mold in the washing machine made me uncomfortable and the dishwasher leaked when we tried to use it. More than 4 bath towels (we had 4 people staying for 4 nights) and a dish towel would have been helpful.

Perfect Place
Me & my husband spent our 28th anniversary at the Potato House. Gorgeous sunrises & sunsets. Cute little chipmunks that will let you catch a glimpse , deer that will show themselves early in the morning. It was truly a wonderful place. The view is breathtaking, no picture has done it justice. Its so much different being there. The Potato house is not far from Boone, Grandfather Mountain ,Linville Caverns, Linville Falls & Blowing Rock. We would recommend staying at The Potatao House for your comfort(the bed is comfortable)& to be close to all the other places to visit. We hope to go back soon . Thank you!!!!
The cabin had an adorable mountain vibe and aesthetic that was consistently applied throughout the home. The location was convenient to a winery, general store, banner elk town and hiking while still being secluded. Though overall well appointed, the home needed some repairs. Wifi was completely down which was disappointing as it left us with no tv and poor cell reception. The hot tub was clean and functional but the abundance of chemicals stung our eyes as well as its cover not easy to pull off, and there was no hot water in one of the bathroom sinks due to a faucet handle not functioning. Overall it was still a lovely stay and could be 5 stars with the above issues addressed.
Loved the location and the view off the porch especially. Many deer passed through.
Several problems unfortunately. 1)The door code and door lock were inoperable. Had to call Vacasa and get key to lock box and physical key. Even then, the door would not lock behind us. 2) Internet did not work until third day of stay. Again, this required phone time with Vacasa. 3) Hot water tap in second bedroom would not produce hot water. 4) Both tubs had unpleasant black mold on grout and caulk that might have been easily corrected with bleach. Given the price for rental, these problems were unacceptable.
Not luxury! More like Rustic! From a seasoned traveler this house is in a great location for peace an quiet. But….. its small with no lounging couches, nice upper deck, the bottom is dark an wooded with a fireplace with no wood, a hot tub filled with to much chlorine an dirt, an a top that needs replacing badly, the cubby den downstairs is way small, the beds are king size an comfy an plenty of hot water for the jetted tubs, don’t get shocked when Mr. Hairy big spider decided to join you for a bath. Ants in the kitchen, 1 trash bag, 1/2 roll of paper towels,1 ply toilet paper, no extra towels, but a fully stocked kitchen.
Don’t let the name fool ya. Its RUSTIC!!! An a big ol tree blocks the views. An the broken guest book is just shamful!

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Communication, listing accuracy
Clean & Warm place! No lines of communication with humans though
Hello! We picked this house because it was close to Beech Mountain. It was cozy and great, however we only picked it because of the hot tub. When we got there it wasn’t working. When we reached out to guest services we could only speak to a bot. The bot gave us several phone numbers to reach out to, but they were phone numbers for agencies in Colorado, and when we called them they told us they had no idea how we got their numbers. The bot told us someone would come out to get the hot tub working, but no one ever did. If there were a greater emergency or any other question we needed answered we would not have been able to communicate with anyone, since there was no phone number or anyone local to reach out to. It is a nice place but not worth the money for the amenities not working and inability to speak with an actual person. This review might be the only way of notifying the owner about this issue. Would we be able to get some type of refund or discount? Otherwise it was clean and we were grateful to have a warm place to stay!
Beautiful location but luxury is a bit of a stretch
We had a nice stay. The house is beautiful in a beautiful location. The view and deck is gorgeous. We were a bit disappointed that there was a coffee maker with no pot so we couldn’t make coffee. I would have loved to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee in the morning. The ice maker didn’t work so we had no ice. Dishwasher was broken so we hand washed the dishes which was fine but if the dishwasher is broken it would be nice if there was more than one dish towel and some type of dish rack. The dishwasher was also filled with smelly dirty dishes which was off putting. The dryer was also broken. The trash was completely full in the outside cage so we needed to stuff our trash in there. Overall this house is beautiful. But it just seems it’s not well looked after. We got engaged here this weekend so I would love to return but I would need to confirm that all the promised amenities were in working condition. Luxury to me means a roll of paper towels being supplied decent toilet paper, etc

Wonderful house, gorgeous view!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Potato House!! Our favorite thing was the spectacular view from the beautiful upstairs front deck! We sat out there every morning with our coffee and every evening with our wine! We even got to see deer eating from the apple tree in the yard across the road by the pond! The house was very clean and quiet and so peaceful. Both beds were wonderful and comfy cozy, and we’re picky when it comes to beds! We loved the gas fireplace downstairs, but used the outside wood fire pit more and made a fire 3 nights! The limbs above it need to be trimmed, they’re fairly close and could easily catch fire if you’re not careful and paying attention! The only disappointment for us was that the hot tub did not work and when I texted letting Vacasa know, they told me to send a picture then told me to find the breaker. First of all, there was power, because the lights on it were blinking and the jets turned on, but the water would not get warm, it stayed freezing cold, and we waiting for close to an hour when the instruction book said it takes 20 minutes for the water to heat up. Someone should have come to fix it for us, but they didn’t even offer. The only other issue we had was that a lot of light bulbs in the front bathroom were out and it was very dark in there. Also, one of the front porch lights was out and the outside flood light timer lasts about 1.5 seconds before you have to wave your arms around again to get it to come back on! Overall we loved The Potato House and will be coming back to stay again!
Enjoyed our stay but the property needs some attention
It's a unique house with a great view in a fantastic location and minutes from everything in Banner Elk. Upon arrival the property manager called to make sure everything was ok. The next day I contacted them because the icemaker was not working and several lights were out including the main entrance. The parking area was pitch-black and not the best for a secluded location. The motion light turns off within seconds so it’s completely useless. The management responded promptly but no one came to repair before we left. In that time, we found over a dozen bulbs burned out and minor issues including a loose drawer pull & towel rack that both fell off and the bathroom hot water faucet barely moves. A section of the deck railing was broken out, the grill is totally beat and has no standby tank. It ran out while using so very irritating as we planned our meals around it. The hot tub was nice and clean, but the lid is tattered and needs replacement – like last year. There were hoses and tools lying about and just a variety of things out of place and beyond the scope of the cleaning crew. Most issues on their own were not enough for most guests to comment about so management was likely unaware. That said, all of this did not happen overnight. A thorough onsite inspection is long overdue. Honestly, if I knew these issues were resolved we would stay there again because it really was a nice trip. This is a great property but without some closer oversight it will soon lose its 5/5 rating.

Great place
Loved the place - perfect for two couples with great views and close to banner elk.
The cabinbwas great, perfect location for snowboarding with a gorgeous view! Hot tub doesn't work, this is listed in fine print so easy to miss when booking, and excessive texts and emails from the property management company, l like to relax and disconnect on vacation, not be borhered with a bunch of unnecessary messages.
