"We stayed in 4 of these new hotels within 2 weeks. This one was empty and felt sad to be so forgotten and unused after a year. The hotel DESPERATELY NEEDS SIGNS ON THE ROAD. You have to call for directions. Google Maps is wrong and staff knows this. Unlike every other hotel, this was unmarked and we spent over an hour trying to navigate without a WiFi signal. The road to the hotel is long with blind spots. It will take 20 min from the road. Not sure who planned that absurd bike line but a two lane would feel safer. The price and pool, amenities staff are great but wow, but a sign on the road or send txts to guests like the others did. Food was best here. "

"Our stay was smooth and relaxing the staff super friendly and attentive. All the waiters and room maintenance girl amazing and helpful. They offer massages I just wish they have a private booth or something to make the massages more enjoyable and private. The beach it’s beautiful, the food descent variety for the size of the place but EXCELLENT and delicious. Definitely coming back :)"

"The staff and service is exceptional, from a cold towelette and welcome drink on arrival to setting a small bonfire in front of our evening dining table for ambience. This was our second stay. The converted old hacienda is a delight. It is small and tranquil, located in a rather remote area in a small pueblo which is safe but doesn't have any activities. There are all two pools, a garden with a demonstration of Mayan indigenous medicinals and herbs (if you are lucky to be there at the right time), a spa (which I haven't used), a wonderful restaurant (dining on the veranda), and a library with books and games located in the 1909 administration building of the hacienda (which looks like a church). Exceptionally clean and staff is so attentive that the bottled water we had consumed upon arrival at 4pm was replaced by 6 pm while we were strolling the grounds. Rooms are comfortable and serene, but not lavishly appointed or modern, keeping with the atmosphere of the hacienda. Mattresses and pillows are very comfortable and with crisp, high-end sheets. Rooms have good A/C. We had a hiccup with our hot water and the management quickly attended to it. Can't wait to return to this special place."

"Just as we remember it but under new ownership. I missed the personalization of the founder Valerie Pickles. She would stop by at breakfast and greet the visitors. I heard the new owner wasn’t feeling well so we didn’t get to meet her. The wonderful included breakfast did not include the signature pickle on the Ham, cheese and egg burrito. Now it was scrambled eggs but just as good. Jamaica juice, some fruit and good strong coffee too! The grounds are lush and so well established. Always a good nights sleep in the thatched roof bungalows! I miss the binder of recommendations that also included history on the place. We miss you Valerie but send good wishes to the new owner. What a gem the Pickled Onion is! We ate dinner there twice- margaritas were a bit sour for my liking, and the empanada appetizer was cold both nights. But the food is good and worth stopping by for! "

"This was our first visit to Celestún, and it was a memorable one. The photos of the property were very accurate—it’s nicely decorated, clean, and charming. The location is fantastic, just steps from the beach. It was such a treat to wake up and walk a few steps to watch the sunrise over the ocean. The water is incredibly shallow, allowing you to walk far out into the sea, which was perfect for beachcombing. We found some truly stunning shells!The property is located about 3 miles down an unpaved, rocky road, so plan accordingly. We did all our grocery shopping before arrival, which worked out well. We chose one day to leave the property to take a tour to see the flamingos and enjoy dinner in town—highly recommended.One of our favorite parts of the stay was relaxing on the beach or in the water during sunset. It was peaceful and exactly the kind of seclusion we were looking for.The property itself is quaint and full of character, with iguanas frequently spotted around the grounds. As it’s a beach property, you might notice a few geckos peeking out from their hiding spots inside the house. They’re harmless, and keep to themselves—though if you're squeamish, it's good to be aware.Overall, this stay was everything we hoped for: quiet, beautiful, and immersed in nature."
