The Gables Hotel

8/10 Good

"It was the second time staying at The Gables with the new owners now in residence. We were made very welcome with the soft opening on our first stay with an excellent cooked breakfast. Changes are being made as they find their way and they are now going to provide a self service breakfast as their growing numbers of guests wanted more choice. The staff are very helpful. It is £15.00 for the dog to stay which is a lot for one night. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Tea, coffee etc provided. toiletries also. We would definitely stay there again on route to our final destination."

"Parts need to be freshened up/ up dated, like the lift. Tha Swimming pool area, the rail rusty, floor tiles & spar changing room / shower door etc The cleanliness over most of the build was good, but parts like level 3 hall way was very poor, when the lift door opened on level 3 I was getting very worried what the room was going to be like. The room was good 😃 lovely beding⭐️ mattress ok . Staff & service brilliant from front desk to breakfast staff, Brilliant breakfast spread. thank you ⭐️"

"I would strongly recommend ringing ahead before arriving for check in as there isn't the usual reception on site and no late check in. And even checking in at 7pm was a slightly nerve wracking procedure that took several nervous minutes of ringing doorbells, Ring Door Camera, texts and two phone calls until I finally managed to speak to the owner, who was off site and arranged for someone(I believe another tenant) to let check in. Eventually it was NOT a problem - but well worth ringing ahead! That said, the hotel was clean with good facilities - TV, tea, coffee, kettle and efficient modern shower. The morning staff were delightful and the full English Breakfast was generous and well prepared. Just over 10 minutes walk from the train station."

"The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The beds were really comfortable, breakfast was very comprehensive and nice. The place is a little run down, but looks as though it’s being improved. Great value for the price, would definitely stay there again. They do do evening meals in the bar although their website doesn’t say so."
