"Good place to stay"

Hotel Fort Des Moines, Curio Collection by Hilton

8/10 Good

"This historic hotel in downtown Des Moines is beautiful! The lobby is stunning, with a mix of restored beautiful wood beams and arches and chandeliers that are modern but pay homage to the time when the hotel was built. The rooms were beautifully apportioned with very good lighting, and excellent bathroom with a perfect shower, and a comfortable bed. The furnishings were great and had storage for clothes and ample counter/desk space. The staff was accommodating and friendly. My only issue was that I had to merge two Expedia reservations into a single stay. They were able to let me keep the same room, but due to some kind of error, the record in the computer had me in the wrong room. This led to a pretty long hassle to remedy the issue. I understand the security protocol of needing to accompany me up to the room to verify what I was saying to them, and I appreciate that they followed through with it. However, getting back into my room ended up taking nearly a half hour by the time everything had been verified and fixed. Though the staff were professional and were really only doing their job, it was disappointing to think everything was settled only to find out that it wasn't. Thus four stars rather than 5. But, I still highly recommend the hotel, knowing that this circumstance was unusual."

Des Lux Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"What a gorgeous hotel! Every detail felt thoughtfully curated, from the classy design and upscale atmosphere to the beautiful little touches that made the entire experience feel special. It had that perfect blend of luxury, charm, and character. The icing on the cake was the Halloween décor! 🎃🕸️ They went above and beyond, creating such a fun, festive atmosphere while still keeping everything elegant. It was absolutely beautiful and made the experience even more memorable! The specialty drinks at the bar were excellent, too! 🍸 And a special shout-out to our sweet bartender, who was just as wonderful as the drinks she served. Great service always makes an experience that much better! A beautiful hotel, impeccable details, fantastic drinks, and the perfect touch of Halloween magic. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would absolutely recommend it! 🖤✨"
