Kauai Pono Kai Resort BR/1BA Condominium -- Sleeps 4

"We were already staying in this resort with friends in another resort managed unit and extended our stay a few days more in Jared's unit. Place was clean and well equipped. Since this is a privatly owned unit, they had beach equipment in the closet so no need to rent and the kitchen was better equipped than the other unit. When I had problems with the toaster, he had another one immediately delivered. It's an older resort so like other units, the bedroom doesn't have AC but was ok with the fan running and AC on on the main living area. TVs had some issues and remotes were very wonky to use but that's a resort managed item and they're supposed to upgrade that equipment soon. As far as the resort, it's older but in a good location and well maintained. Walk to downtown Ka'apa and is adjacent to the ocean but not really much of a beach right there. Very nice, very long walking trail along the ocean. Pool and hot tub are fine but pool could use more chairs and umbrellas. There is a shop on site to book activities and rent gear."

"Kapa'a is a great location in Kauai. Pono Kai Resorts has elevators which is convenient for suitcases when u r on 2nd floor. Laundry is easily accessible and only 3 for a load. Beautiful ocean view. Great walking path."

"This ground-floor unit is just yards from the actual ocean, which is what you hear and see 24 hours a day. When you open the patio door and the back bedroom window, there's a steady breeze flowing through the home. The owners have stocked the unit with literally EVERYTHING you need to feel comfortable and provided for, including quality cookware, plenty of towels, sharp kitchen knives, etc. There's an air conditioner in the bedroom so you can close the window and the drapes and stay cool throughout the night. The owner is very responsive and helpful. There's an oceanfront walking/bike path, and two bicycles kept in the unit. The Pono Kai resort is beautifully maintained and centrally located, yet you feel like you're away from it all. Our intention was to relax, rejuvenate, and reinvent ourselves for the next chapter of our lives. We couldn't have chosen a more ideal site for our Retreat!"

"The Pono Kai resort was a great place to stay. The condo had everything we needed, including a cooler for our day trips. It was very clean. The bed was comfortable. The paved path along the ocean was nice for a morning stroll. There are walkable places to dine. The lanai offered amazing sunrises. The resort property is very well maintained. It was an easy drive from the airport. We would stay here again."

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a great time at Pono Kai. Property was clean, maintained with lots to do. Pool games, board games, mini golf, and many other activities to keep you occupied. Our room came with detergent, cooler, chair and an umbrella which was very useful and ideal! Our only downside was it got very hot in the room, as it was super humid. We ended up staying on the pullout last 2 nights as the living room was much cooler. Would recommend and stay again!"

"Perfect location to explore the island. It is a nicely decorated & updated first floor unit with AC & anything you might have forgotten. Kitchen was stocked & included stainless cooking pans, coffee maker, & a dishwasher. Appreciated being able to use the unit's bikes to go get morning malasada's at Passion bakery. We could walk to shopping, the farmer's market, the food trucks, restaurants, & on the paved path. We also completed all the puzzles on the rainy days we were stuck inside (pcs missing but still fun). We used the resort's bbq's, pickleball court, safe ax throwing set, & ping pong supplies. Wanted to use the pool and gym but ran out of time. Parking, laundry, & trash were all close. Everything was easy. Wish the weather had been better. Made it to Poipu beach on a nice day & saw 17 turtles & 3 monk seals sunbathing. Nice snorkling. Next time we will go to Anini beach. Beautiful but the bacteria levels were high after the storm so had to skip snorkling. Got excited about the farmers' market that is close & bought a lot of things. Unfortunately the only good thing turned out to be some basil. Everything else was dissapointing & expensive. The 6 grown in Hawaii pineapple at Costco was amazing. Also becareful where you shop. Bought coconut syrup at the ABC Store & found it for half the price at the supermarket. Safeway, Longs, & Walmart were super close. Costco was near the airport. Favorite foods were: Passion Bakery, Kickshaw Food truck, & Uncle D's Bbq. Fun times!"

"We had an issue with the TV and when we called the front desk we were told they do not handle problems as it is rented through VRBO. We were told to contact VRBO. No instructions on where to leave the key at checkout. We left it on a counter and the next day we got a text stating the cleaner couldn't get in as the key wasn't in the lockbox. The cleaner should have a key and where to leave the key should be in the instructions if that is an issue for them.Beautiful ocean view and wonderful wave sounds ."
