"Property was beautiful, and so was the surrounding area. Porta potty closest to our dome was not remotely clean at all, but the one 20 feet away from it was so it was no big deal. The first night was great, (other than getting bitten up) and then we woke up and made breakfast and left for our hike. When we got back to the dome, i attempted to make dinner and realized the area surrounding our food bags was being infested with ants that were getting through the cracks where the wall met the floor....

"Our room at Big Bend station was greatly enjoyed, but there were a few odd things about it such as that the sheets smelled like mildew and there was something that looked a lot like blood smeared near the top of the door frame in the bathroom. There was also a small hole in the wall of the bathroom which was odd. But overall it was a good room, the check-in was easy even though we got there very late (they had a envelope with our key waiting), the staff was friendly, the location was wonderful, and the ac and water worked. We did have to ask for extra towels and there was no housekeeping while we were there"

"I really enjoyed my stay there with my mom! The Candelia Cafe had such delicious food, chef Smajo was amazing! We did come during the rain season (june) and so there were a lot of mosquitos but general store did have bug spray. I would still bring your own just in case! If you are driving, come on the Alpine side! It was such a beautiful place to be and to be off the grid. The staff helped us with whatever we needed and it felt right out of a Western movie."

"The views were amazing. The room was clean and entire property had a fun decor. The community kitchen was well respected and provided ample staples including bottled water. While the road to the ranch was bumpy and long, it felt remote without being crazy remote."

"We loved our little Gun Ship cabin. It was ready for us when we arrived, and even better than we expected. It's off-grid for electricity and water, but we didn't suffer. The A/C worked and plenty of bottled water was provided. There was a TV in the room, but we never turned it on. The kitchen was convenient and well stocked. I cooked twice. This little collection of cabins is in the desert, off the beaten path. Sitting out at night is amazingly quiet--no traffic, no hoard of noisy insects, not even a coyote. We live in the country, but not quiet country like this area. The night skies were amazing. Highly recommend this relaxing getaway! Our dog accompanied us, and we enjoyed walking on the property during the cooler parts of the day. The cabins are on a ridge that narrows and has a trail to the end with views of the mountains and surrounding gorge. It's a short drive to the southeast to visit Big Bend National Park and a short drive to the southwest to visit Big Bend State Park. We had a satisfying steak dinner for our anniversary at the Starlight Theater Restaurant and enjoyed browsing through the Trading Post next door to the restaurant. If you plan to float the river in a canoe or kayak, you may want to check the water levels first. I paid for a trip, but the water levels were very low, which meant carrying the kayak or canoe at least a dozen times. We decided it would be too hard on my husband's back. Wonderful, well-maintained property!"
