Yenworthy Cottage, Countisbury

Yenworthy Cottage is part of Yenworthy Farm. Set in a spectacular location on the northern slopes of Exmoor National Park, a few hundred yards from the coast and with views of the Bristol Channel. The Farm is situated in ‘Doone Country’, and actually appears in the novel itself. The gun which was supposedly used to repel the ‘Doones’ still hangs in the farmhouse to this day. This working farm once had its own mill and the old water wheel can still be seen. The Cottage was built in 1628 and extended in 1840. It was refurbished and re-furnished in 2016 to offer a high standard of accommodation.

A haven for wildlife, it has four Sites of Special Scientific Interest. There are rare species of butterflies and trees, large areas of heather moorland and impressive cliff geology.

Entrance to the property is via the large porch into the hallway, both providing plenty of space for wellies and walking boots! The sitting/dining room has two comfortable sofas, wood-burner and dining table with six chairs. The kitchen is on the opposite side of the hall and has recently been fitted with all new appliances and has a smaller dining table with four chairs and extra stools. The back door from the kitchen leads down some steps to an enclosed courtyard, an ideal spot to let the dogs dry off or cool down, depending on the season. There is also a pretty garden to the side and front with outside seating. The stairway from the entrance hall leads up to the two twin bedrooms on the first floor. The family bathroom is also on the first floor and is comprised of a newly fitted large shower (the bath has been removed in 2021), plus toilet and hand basin. Up a narrow staircase to the second floor is the master bedroom with King-sized bed and en-suite with of shower, toilet and hand basin.

Good house for exploring Exmoor in remote location
High ceilings for a "cottage", comfy beds and lots of hot water and good central heating, however sadly in need of some much needed TLC as various things broken. Could also do with better /more thorough cleaning - attention to detail lacking overall which could easily be rectified. We enjoyed our week despite constant storms and rain as the local area is lovely. 15 mins to Porlock and Lynmouth by car.

Disappointing
The property was lovely and it was nice to have a wood burner howevwr little things let it down such as a sheet that didnt fit the bed properly and it was missing a mattress protector. The kettle was so black inside we purchased our own. Small maintenance issues around the property need attending to as well as a stain on the carpet. Overall i didnt feel we got value for money.

Perfect hideaway
Fabulously located holiday let right on the coastal path. Clean, cosy and well equipped and provided our small group with an ideal base to explore the area. Hoping to return in the not too distant future.

Excellent cottage. Everything we needed was there. Dogs loved it. Not a sound of a firework.
Wanted a quiet location with shops within driving distance. Dogs loved the walks on Exmoor. We were not bothered by fireworks, so a stress free stay for all. Shopping in Lynmouth good. Nice inns nearby in Withypool. Lovely walk to Watersmeet House. Delicious scones served. Will return.
