Learn more about San Andres

Climb the wooden viewing tower at Mirador El Canek for sweeping vistas of Lake Petén Itzá and the surrounding jungle. Rent a kayak to explore the lake's shoreline, then visit the small archaeological museum showcasing Maya artifacts found in the area.

This is my most epic self-portrait, so far:

Contemplating the Milky Way, standing all alone on top of El Henequén—one of the many ancient mayan temples you'll find along the way to El Mirador—surrounded by monkeys, fireflies and an ocean of trees.

No wonder why our ancestors looked up into the sky and thought of mighty gods.
